they oil the roads here because its so dry and hot the rubber asphalt looses all its oil and then they put sand over the top for a week so you can drive on it without sliding off the road from the oil. its the cheap way to raise the life time of a road. if it was a road that got high use, it would have been beaten to crap already and would have need to be repaved.

so things are running pretty well. over the weekend i cut up the steering rack and i fixed a bump steer issue and so yesterday i had some fun going up and down the hill. boy do these tires suck! at one point i got a bit out of shape and had fun alternating between losing the front and losing the rear. holy crap what a toy! it felt like a real car! with some better tires, this thing will be an absolute monster. and this is with only sub 100hp... i'd estimate it does a 0-60 in somewhere around 6 seconds. hard to tell without a speedometer. with some better tires and a higher compression ratio, this thing will be a real strain on the cheek muscles. both top and bottom. things have shifted into what i guess you might call 'tuning' as i'm trying to get the suspension setup better and smoothing over the rough edges and whatnot. the seats need a ton of love. but she's definitely making progress she's a real fun car to drive now. a bit sketchy still though because of the tires. also the suspension is really stiff for hitting potholes

Looks fun. Is the front track wider than the rear? It looks that way. Why is this?

If youre familiar with regular car reviews, you should let mr regular do a review on it if he ever goes to california again. Thatd be great.

Gotcha! You should let Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire drive it. I think he is out in LA. Make it happen.

cars okay. i've been doing little things. the passenger side cockpit has made a lot of progress and there is actually foot bracing and stuff now. there is a really small short somewhere though. very small. but its causing the battery to die after about a week, so i installed another secondary battery cutoff at the front. so when its not running i'll just leave it cut off. haven't figured out where the draw is coming from yet. i also have a passenger side mirror that needs to go on. i ditched the ariel clone bodywork because i dont like the style and it was shittily made. i'm working on something new for it. on the list to buy is a trailer, new tires and new rear wheels. a helical diff by quaife. i need to do a little work on the tank vent (it needs to be closed unless its running) but she does nice donuts.

I have built a lot of cars for clients, and the biggest motivator and helpful force in all respects is enthusiasm. When people get excited, they take on an attitude of "how can I help?" --- and that's precisely what's required to keep difficult and complex projects moving along. Just trying to help. I've been through this circus before.

Followup ten minutes later.
I just scrolled through the last few pages and saw a few pics. One was of a d15b w/intake directly on the throttle body. I am no mad scientist, but I have noticed that those engines respond well to a longer intake passage. Resonance tuning and other black magic type stuff... Longer intake piping creates a resonance tuning effect that increases horsepower at a specific point in the rev-range. Don't ask me how to explain it, just trust me. It looks to me like you're building a go-kart. Power to weight ratio. That is all that determines speed and performance characteristics. The lighter the car, the less power required to make it "fast" -- but fast is a matter of perspective. An amish dude racing down the street in a four-horse carriage feels like the king of the world because it's the highest speed of travel which he has experienced in his existence. If you put that same amish dude in a modern production vehicle and take him down I-95 at 70mph, he will pray to his god and curl up in the fetal position while doing his best to proclaim that he is invincible. The experience will change him. The point I'm trying to make here is that speed is a matter of desensitization. 20mph to an amish dude is fcuking FAST! But once you expand his boundaries of what is possible, capable, and REAL -- the perspective will change. Be safe, whatever you plan to do. Machines can be fixed, people -- cannot.
