pic of wear, it's much lower on the puck than what I typically see from most people, and that's definitely from jennings. It wasn't there before and it's clearly been sanded off by being dragged repeatedly.

as you get lower, your leg will move up toward the bike and the contact patch moves up higher. most people who spend a lot of time down do whats called a touch and go, which is use the knee until you're down all you're gonna go, then pull it up and go so you aren't just constantly dragging it. it saves money since you dont have to replace them as often.

Oh cool, I thought I was doing it wrong

and chris was talking about that when floki started dragging knee, pucks are mad expensive for what they are.

Corner 11's fun to drag knee through. I should have known to chill when I was already dragging there in session 1.

My point. I was off from the start.

Hey, just had that Primal Pale Ale you sent home. Pretty good! I would rate it a few points higher than beeradvocate.com does.

I always get behind in corners 6-9, so yeah, even in session one, I was using my love of corner 11 to catch up with the group. I should have put myself last like I usually do. Shoulda, coulda, woulda...none of it matters. Oh well.

glad you enjoyed it, those two beers are two of my favorite MD brews and I prefer the primal to the powder monkey. Both are solid american pale ales. I haven't had a chance to pop open the hopsecutioner that I brought back but it's a beer that seems right up my alley so I think I'll enjoy it.

btw, corner 8 I was awful at. Decent through 7 but I had a scare in 8 and it took me forever to get my confidence back there and even when I did it was still not quite right. I never felt like I was falling behind in the back section though. If anything I was also bad at 10-11 since I would consistently get passed going into 12...especially by floki and the madman on the drz400sm

When working on a specific corner it's best to do it alone. Don't try to catch up to the group, instead concentrate on that one corner by yourself so you are not distracted. I find that if you're having trouble with a certain corner go on youtube and watch a pro do it. Sometimes you have to take a different line than you expect.

I am gunna print this out and hang it on my trailer. I place no blame on anyone here, but "I" broke several of these rules during this weekend.

Though going forward as a coach, I am going to have to learn to ride that first session like a boss.

I remember that post, good post

I disagree with skipping so many sessions though I do believe in skipping the last session of the day. The first session is a great warm up session to me, so long as the pace is backed down considerably from a true track pace it's all good. I prefer riding at a slower pace, so long as it doesn't create any hazards for anyone, and pitting in early if it doesn't feel right to not going out at all. That's just my take on it though and you'll generally know if you're good to ride or not already anyway. I just see the mentality of always being willing to pit in as a critical advantage to safety on the track. If you're exhausted and need a break, you're not improving your skills anyway and a longer break before the next session could really do you some good. Same goes if you get hungry or thirsty while riding.

I've noticed that I get thirsty a lot while riding, anyone know if track orgs allow camelbaks? I wish

Will do, but I think my opinion will likely be along the lines of "skip when necessary" with more experience comes more knowledge of exactly when that is. Theoretically speaking of course

It's the easiest track for me to get to, as well as my favorite track, so you know I'll be there. I'm also thinking through how to fit 2 bikes in the bed of my truck, I got a line on an '03 track prepped and mechanic owned gsxr600 for a very reasonable deal so it's very likely I'll be hauling 2 bikes around to some tracks. Shenny is a 250 track though so if I figure out something like that I'll be able to give @Old Lemon a lift too.

I agree 100% which is why I always hate that first session when everyone's riding in a line behind a coach and you're supposed to follow close to the guy ahead of you. I usually put myself way in the back so it's less of an issue if I get behind. That alone probably would have put me in a better mindset. Oh well. Gotta love that there hindsight.

I like the first session mentality that @Foxrider64 has, which is to ride the first session with one hand. It forces you to ride at a comfortable pace and it also shows you where the bike wants to go. It's a great way to start the day. Plus no one cares if they fall a little behind in the first session, after day 1 I was using my own lines anyway so the only thing I was getting out of it was to wake up and be more acclimated to the track.

Keep in mind this is for a novice pace during the lead follow session only where speeds are less than highway speeds.

It encourages you to find a smooth line where you aren't forcing the bike to do anything.

There's no way I could be comfortable riding properly fast without my left hand to shove me into left handed corners. Especially on a lefty track.

To me, first session last weekend was NOT riding less than highway speeds. Usually the lead follow session is much slower, but I think he took it briskly knowing we had all been to Jennings before.

I agree. I have been there a few times and that was the fastest lead follow so far.

track bike, you have a truck so getting to the track is far from impossible for you. Just takes some $ each time. I've actually worked it out. if I go to shenny/summit point or njmp it's only $300 for a day for me so long as I don't crash. Which isn't really that bad.

the old ford? that isn't exactly what I'd picture from you but have at it. Once you get a track bike you need to pay $ to actually use it so that's definitely a factor

Yup... Not really a complete old ford, but most of one, which is plenty enough to start with. I'm not so stereotypically stereotypical. After that it's a track bike an saving till I find the right 40 ford, haha ok if ya know me that one is pretty stereotypical

oh btw, you know what makes a great cheap track bike? A newgen ninja 250r They're inexpensive, relatively, and can hang with the best of them. Plus insurance is cheap if you want a backup street bike

when I was doing a lot of track days and experimenting, I would lean till my knee touched, lift it and lean some more till the pegs started dragging. it was fun till the exhaust started dragging and lifted the rear off the ground. wish i had the time and money to play like that again.

why would you lean more without your knee to guide you by informing you how low you are, I always figured that was the whole point of dragging knee rather than not dragging knee.
