Maybe they didn't get all the air out? I remember running my car with the rad cap open to get all the air out.
If the fan isn't connected, at highway speeds it should still be ok, right? |

Shop not doing the whole job right that sucks, good luck.
You don't have a thermo-bob installed do you? If you did they can be a PITA to bleed all the air from the coolant system. Even a stock coolant system can be hard to bleed and some people don't take the needed time to do it right. |

I fill through the cap and squeeze the hose coming out of the head until it stops sucking coolant in. Then I run the bike with the cap off until it heats up and wants to come out the top. No issues ever so far, but in full disclosure I did put a bleed hole in my thermostat. |

The normal way of filling and bleeding the system doesn't woke if you have a thermo bob and can leave you quite a bit low on fluids. I think after the initial bleed I would normally do on most bikes the most I've squeezed it with the method is around 10oz. |

Might have blown mine up this weekend. Check the little bolt that holds the bracket for the coolant line. If it comes loose your coolant line will blow off the water pump. To locate the said bolt fallow the coolant line from the pump up until you see a bracket the holds the line. Make sure you don't loose this bolt. Cross your fingers for me that my motor did not blow.

Stuffed a few more 250 parts into the 500...
The 300 chainguard/mini-hugger conflicts with the 500's undertail fender, so I've got the plain 250 chainguard on for now. I still need to do the front wheel as well (waiting on a new EBC rotor that matches the bike better than the one I already bought ). Spools are so much nicer than the generic flat pads under the swingarm...

Chinese knock-off stomp grips. They suck and hurt in thin scrubs. Geared up would probably OK. I'll just see how long they last until I come about a Tech Spec deal.

Got her back!!
Coolant problem was due to rocks and mud getting up behind the radiator and preventing the fan from turning, that caused the fuse to pop, fan never turned, engine overheated, and viola coolant ends up on garage floor. Most awesome was that wasn't the original issue I had taken it to the, for so totally expected a second service bill. Grand total $0.00! SWEET!

Good find; I think I remember a rock stopping that fan buried somewhere else on this site, so it's a good reminder of something to check. I had certainly forgotten about it.

I know right?!
When he first told me it was rocks, I was like "I haven't been off road lately!" Then remembered that the original trip last week out me on my boss' dirt driveway and it was raining, instant mud soup that coated the underside of my bike. :knock on wood: No more problems! I have a road trip!

Started her up for the first time since the accident last month today. Took some doing (wish our petcocks had a prime setting) but once she started getting gas all was well. Going to deliver her to a mechanic later today and set up an insurance appointment.

Found out that I broke the main tabs that hold the front fairing to the fairing stay. Because of that I also found out that I lost a bolt that held the fairing stay to the stem and that top bolt was was backing out. Will be zip tie-n my fairings back together.

Became one with my bike..kinda. Tachometer light went out and most of my riding has been at night lately, so I've been having to rely on ear rather than looking at the tach when shifting. Conflicted whether I should fix it or not.
Also two roadside repairs. First one of the nuts came off the shift connecting rod (don't know the name..), so had to reconnect that. Couple days later, the bottom bolt fell off of the left rearset while trying to shift..it was swinging. Luckly, the bolt fell between the kickstand and peg.. Also, both of the times happened around 3 am. That was fun.. |

Rode it to make sure there really are no leaks anymore, plus to check balance of a full load of luggage.
My awesome daddy figured out a way to hold my soft saddlebags up and keep them from flopping inward under the tail (and potentially against the exhaust). He wrapped a strap around the bags and up over the tail to hold them in place. Bonus, I get my rear pegs back to hook my boot on while riding!

last night i installed my 2nd hand two brotherrs exhaust and found out that it didnt come with the clamp that hold it to the midpipe...so i need to improvise some sort of way to hold it together. most likely the guy who sold it to me kept it and never planned on sending it or he forgot about it, no biggie. after work (in about 40 min) I plan on installing my Yoshi rearset risers and my black ebay pegs. pics to follow soon.

I think if I am going to do this kind of trip again, I am investing in a set of hard bags with proper mounts and that lock. I can foresee one of the hassles on this trip is going to be unmounting and remounting the bags each evening and morning. Ugh.
