I almost forgot to mention I bought three items to customize Nikki!!
I plan to put this on my top part of the windshield at the bottom of my shield! and I plan to get two of these and cut them apart to put them reading top to bottom on my side fairings! |

Yesterday, not today, but: took her on my first ride down CA-74. Pics taken by a friend who was spotting for me.
@CaliGrrl, I wanna see pics of the purple!

With almost 38k miles on SERENITY, starting to replace things before they become a problem.
Latest item, an barely used hub cush from an 07 with less than 200 miles, price was 18.00, w/free shipping, thxs eBay again. It arrived today, and it looks brand new. I know I could have shimmed the one, and etc... But with the super low miles, and excellent deal I got, I couldn't pass it up.

Today's achievement: broke 900 miles on the odometer. Also tried riding with earplugs for the first time. I was worried they'd dull my sense of what Hurricane's up to, but with the wind noise cut down I'm actually able to focus on her and the ride a lot better.

Thanks! I'm glad you like the colors. I need an LA Kings sticker for my helmet so people don't think I'm a Lakers fan, though....

Today was a good day. I got some stuff in the mail for the bike which prompted me to work on it. I put on a cheap ram mount clone with a built in USB charger. I used some T-taps to wire it to the low beam headlight so it only draws power when the bike is on.
I managed to undo the stripped screw on my front brake reservoir (hint, hammer the screwdriver into the screw). Now I can switch to the steel brake line like I put on the rear. The new one is a few inches longer than stock though, so I hope I don't get any kinking. I also flushed and redid my coolant, which hasn't been done in 6 years Its refreshing that everything I've gotten the guts to do is simpler in reality than it is in my inexperienced mind. I'm learning to really not be afraid of doing my own maintenance. Next up, another oil change, and then maybe if I'm feeling confident fixing the leaking fork seal. |

Finally got wifey on Fritzenhimer yesterday for a ride. It was great. For Mantis I did the normal weekend thing, cleaned, inspected and put lube on the chain and did my monthly oil and filter change and have him a nice bath.

Still just 3000 miles/month.
My 250 service manual shows 7500 for the oil and filter changes. Is the 300 that different? Granted, I change mine every 5k, but that's cause it's an easier frequency for me to remember.

Most Blackstone Oil reports say 3-5K oil changes are good. Anything more and the oil is so thin it's pretty much useless. Motorcycle transmissions are hard on oil and shear it a lot. Sure, the factory says 7500 miles bit $10 worth of oil is pretty cheap insurance.

installing a new valve and piston by thursday night is a bit tricky when you don't yet have said parts. Hopefully I'll be good to go for the races this weekend and fun days after

Oil change intervals are just guidelines. When doing consistent long trips with hours at operating temp, you are reducing your contaminates significantly over short trips or even moderate riding. In that case you can safely stretch your change intervals. For you, 3000 mi on your oil is really not asking much - especially if you run a decent synthetic oil. |

Imo I'd rather keep it on the clean and fresh side of things and monthly just makes sense for me because of riding hard on a daily basis. When I was using Toothless (2010 250) I was on the same schedule and could tell a definite improvement after the oil change. Closed to the change I would frequently slip into neutral and occasionally have difficulty with shifting. I honestly don't know for sure if it was just due to the oil brake down but it was definitely a noticeable improvement.

T6 is decent, but is known to shear down fairly rapidly.
I ran it in my SV650 for a while, but noticed that after a thousand miles the shifting did degrade. Now I run Redline cycle oil (Group V) and it doesn't change. The advantage to T6 is the cost. It's the least expensive "synthetic" (Group III) that has the proper additive package (ZDDP levels mostly) for a cycle engine. It's a trade-off. Spend twice as much for an oil that lasts twice as long, or change it more frequently. |

I recently changed to Mobile 1 15-50wt so far so good, I've run T6 for many years in my bikes, and haven't had any issues with it either.
The switch was I wanted a bit thicker, and it comes in 5qt, so enough for 2 changes with some left over for topping off.

Thx 4 the heads up. I think I will go with the T6 for her. It's a new bike so I don't want to mess with a thicker viscosity (if that's their right term)...

Just ordered a clutch bolt instead of a brake lever bolt
Maybe when it comes it I can finally get back on the road. I am also buying a volt thingy to check my clutch switch thing because I have been trying to get it to work for the past 2 weeks. Invisible bill suggested I get a volt thingy I just want to be able to ride safely again its been so frustrating I was nearly in tears on Sunday after 4 hours of fiddling with it |

Thank you, I am REALLY trying. I have NEVER worked on my car or anything like that so this is ALL new to me. Like I said in an earlier post, I went with out windshield whipper fluid in my car for almost 9 months because I had absolutely no idea what i was doing. It is only in the last couple weeks since ive been working on my bike (thank you youtube) that I have gained the confidence to learn my car. |
