I just thought of one more thing that I believe I should share with you.
Positive throttle while on the front brake. The 250 has so little power this isn't the HUGE problem as it is on bigger bikes. Just a little bit of throttle goes a long way on a 600. Be mindful that you have completely closed the throttle when you wanna brake. I know it sounds simple but have watched a few riders go down because "my bike just wouldn't slow down". It's easy to do and will always happen at the worst time.

i dont think its the speed he's truly after...
judging by how he wanted to jump straight into an r1. status is what he really wants. i was just suggesting that he be more responsible in his spending, he'll get a lot more fun in the end. simply being responsible could yield income for a bunch of exotic/custom bikes. the way he is going now, he'll burn out by 25 and file bankruptcy, or worse get injured badly and have 30k in hospital bills. |

Yea R6 really is pussy ****. I just traded in my 650 for a 1000. Don't stick around on that 600 too long, you don't want people laughing at you. Grow a pair and step up to a liter bike or **** it go balls to the wall and get the zx14. No one will ever make fun of the size of your penis again.

So if I have 250R and ninjette.org stickers, what's that mean about me?
Robert, easy with lane splitting at lights. I know it's not illegal in CA, but drivers tend to either mot know that, or get angry when bikers do it. Posted via Mobile Device |

well, judging by the way I get treated when I do it here on a bicycle (not illegal as far as I know, just do it at your own risk) people don't like it much I've been run off the road and cussed at, been brake checked etc.
Even if it's not illegal on a motorcycle there, I feel like it's still going to make people grouchy Posted via Mobile Device |

The reason why I do this is because if I'm stopping fast, I want to downshift to an appropriate gear to have enough power to get out of the way if need be. Same thing at a stop light / stop sign. I don't clutch if I'm simply using the brakes to slow down, as in traffic, however. |

@Isabelle, for casual riding/cruising, there is nothing really wrong with what you are doing. It just takes extra time & attention. Not really a problem for most riders. If I remember right, this is what I was taught in the MSF as well during the emergency stop drill. (clutch, brake(s), down one, left foot down first)
I am in the habit of rev-matching (blipping) down as I ride along cruising, aggressively or track riding. Once you get good at it, it takes less than a second to downshift and is super smooth. Less time & attention to inputs and more time to pay attention to things that can hurt you. And if you thinking about it, your nearly always in the right gear to keep with the flow of traffic. For example; If you are between lights in the city and believe the cars ahead will come to a stop. But they don't for whatever reason... What gear did you just downshift to and how do you come back to the gear appropriate for your wheel speed? All these actions and thoughts go away when you rev-match leaving your attention on what really matters. And when in doubt "upshift"!

People generally don't get bothered by filtering up to the front at red lights. Just don't knock off any mirrors or bump anything else, and generally all is fine. There is some sensitivity to cutting to the front at toll lanes.

I think the insurance I have (State Farm) subsidized insurance cost if you take a MSF class, that might be worthwhile looking into. As an additional bonus, taking the MSF class would get you your license also.

See here; http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...t=downshifting But don't sweat it to much, it's not something you really have to do to ride safely.
As long as it's fun, that's all that matters.

But still taking MSF, even though he has already been riding, would be beneficial. I know where I live,in WA, MSF if you're under 17 (or 18) the government subsidizes the cost of MSF. A cheap way to learn and get a license.

People here just try to run you over and cut you off by moving over left in the lane when you come up on them too fast, or they slow down amd then glare at you in the rearview. They either assume you're going to do something dumb or they just don't see you at all. I lane split ay lights and in slow traffic on a bicycle, but I would be afraid to try it on my ninjette too much besides just like 1 car at a time at lights

BTW, this thread influenced my dreams last night.
I dreamt I was riding a black R6 on the freeway and scared shitless. The bike had so much power that a small roll on the throttle and I'd go over 100mph. I ended up riding 30mph on the freeway and turning on my hazard lights (the bike apparently had some). |

Nice bike, I like red better though ...
Like any bike, learn it and your environment before playing hard, "it happens" just do it in the safest manor possible. The back roads are my play ground (they closed the track here) but I won't do anything really stupid unless I know what I'm stepping into. Some of the posts in this thread are a little on the hard side, I've know a person that has died at 5mph on a motorcycle. Some suggestions, learn stoppies, power wheelies and clutch wheelies in a safe place. Why I say this is, it will let you understand the weight, power and braking mechanics of the bike which transfer very well to the street when you need to use them. Last things, ride your limit, not someone else's. No ego allowed once your confident in your riding skills on this bike and NEVER ride when your mad. The last point has almost got me a few times. Once again, nice bike, welcome to the Yami Family. Pass on all hills and corners |
