I often wish I had trunk space... I'd hate to see what happens with all the stuff crammed in my pockets were something to happen

Vacuum pumps can be bought at auto parts stores for $20-35 if I remember correctly. I have found that in some instances (ie bleeding dual caliper front systems that have an upside down "U" shape hose that connects both calipers) you almost NEED to use vacuum to suck out all air bubbles. I can imagine how much fun bleeding your ABS system will be/ has been. If anyone here plans on working on brakes more than once, do yourself a favor and get a vacuum pump!

Welp. Guess my fairing repair job wasn't as structurally sound as hoped.
That whole chunk fell off... While riding... On the highway... Going 80 mph... ****ing fantastic. Guess I'll be getting a new side fairing sooner than planned... Would it be ****ed up to hope someone else totals their 2014 green bike so I could get the fairing cheap? I mean I don't want them to get hurt or anything; I just want their bike parts xD (For realsies though, I'd rather you all don't crash) |

There's a tiny piece still attached near the oil filter. Did it break exactly along the cracks? |

It didn't help that the black boomerang shaped piece wasn't all there; I think it would've helped hold it together otherwise. Belly pan pieces were off the bike because of cracking from the right side fairing near the mounting point and I didn't want the belly pan to break off before I fixed that. Also no undercowl. Yeah oops those side fairings were kinda blowing in the wind a lot. Getting my bike back to rideable condition made me not want to do anything at all for a long time. I'm barely managing regular maintenance now lol. |

When making any type of structural repair on most plastics it's always a good idea to grind the backside clean and rough and use a piece of fiberglass cloth (about 2" wide or whatever will fit) saturated with the proper adhesive to strengthen and hold the seam in-place. After that has dried, "V" the outside and grind down an area 1" on both sides of the crack to give the adhesive a larger area to adhere to and give you a recessed area to fill. Some type of filler is easier to work with (sand) than adhesive for final shaping, but it can't be too thick or need to provide any strength.

It wasn't obviously cracked when I started the ride though. The part that had started to crack again was no more than an inch long and had been there for months already with no ill effects. If it had been something more, yeah I would have done something about it.
Well I'm not exactly home now so I do have to ride it back at the end of the weekend without being able to do any sort of work on it. There are parts of the fairings that always look like they're going to fall off anyway due to poor design of the fairings combined with the fairing stay not being perfect anymore and surprisingly those pieces have continued clinging on this whole time. I think I may end up just buying a used fairing of a different color and just using it as is until I have the time to paint it. Hell it'll still look better than what I have now right? |
