In a constant effort to improve my methods, i'm now using axle grease to form and hold the orings in place prior to bowl installation. Heat cycles and pressure will insure the orings form and stay in place....easily removed when required. Fear not... giant globs of grease are removed....no invasive slop...no migration...clean and neat as always. Good questions, comments and discussion...thanks for your interest Bill! Gordon

I ship motorcycle electronic parts to Canada regularly, and a package I sent last week was $23.70, but that box is too small for a pair of carbs. You can explore all the options on the USPS web site. Sometimes the guys at the local Post Office are not familiar with all of them. Then if you use a 3rd party postage company like Shipping Easy to print the labels instead of the USPS site, you can get a small discount on postage. |

some completed pics....
replaced old with ALL new *tight* vac hoses inside/outside Seems to be common...the last few sets I've done I've discovered a rash of loose vac hoses (at fittings)....just loose enough to cause minor leakage when warm I think...best to renew at time of refurb.

WOW! GREAT WORK!
Bolted on the carb put on the tank and started right up. purrs like a kitten. I forgot to choke it and it still started and idled without hesitation. I guess with all the crap I have gone through to get this bike running I am glad I finally got someone who knows carbs and is honest. Paid a local guy $100 to rebuild the carb and he ripped me off. thank you Gordon. Money well spent. |

Ducatiman has done it again, this time he did my EX500 carbs.
The bike sat for 4 years outside in the elements, add to that they are 26 years old, way overdue for a refurbishment. He did find a issues with them including a bad diaphragm. You can see the slight moisture induced discoloration/corrosion in the pictured bowl, its in the other as well. Unfortunately, 4 years outdoors does take a toll. Thank you @ducatiman for delivering once again top quality workmanship. They look better new, and will perform the same. You will not get the same level out of a can of Carb cleaner and a toothbrush, not even remotely close. He has the knowledge, tools, equipment, and most importantly pride in his craft, and it shows. The before and after pictures speak for themselves, this is why he does my carbs, and why I personally recommend his services without hesitation on the forums. If anyone is on the fence about sending him yours, you need to just do it, and you'll be glad you did. It's money well spent without a doubt.

Another shout-out for Gordon's amazing work!!! I bought a derelict 2008 250R that had been sitting around for 2-years and was all gummed up. Here's what carbs looked like when I brought bike home.
I managed to get crispy algae off, but it was still all clogged up everywhere else inside. Bike wouldn't start properly, needed choke full-time to barely idle. Would die as soon as I gave it any throttle.Trying to run engine this way eventually caused it to hydrolock with fuel from leaky floats and break starter-gear. See DIY Starter Gear repair.. So I sent off the carbs to Ducatiman and got them back surprizingly quick!!! Using combination of alien-tech , black-magic, good ol-fashioned expertise and skill, he completely refurbished them. Replaced vacuum hoses and upgrade fasteners to allen-buttonheads which gives them a really modern high-tech look! Installed them, and bike started right up and idled with no problems!! Crisp throttle-response on road, couldn't be any better!! Highly recommend Gordon's carb refurb service; some of the best money I've spent on this bike! Agreed...and standard procedure within my service.
I've personally owned late 90's Kaw ZX6R with *2* closed pilot screws right from the factory....the others near just 1 turn out..how did they run at all? Note for update and clarity....(within the quote above) no longer using the crazy glue to hold bowl orings...standard grease works fine...under compression and a couple of heat cycles..the orings form, fit and seal perfectly....remove effortlessly when necessary.

Want to advise those members interested or in need....I'm now incorporating petcock service within Custom Carb Services.
This addition is both sensible and convenient as carbs are dependent on (if not held hostage to) clean, concise fuel flow via the historically problematic factory vacuum petcock. These days, an original equipment new Kawasaki petcock in the $90 neighborhood....a clean/refurb done affordably, at a fraction of new. I'll be stocking internal parts, alternative replacement screens (if missing) and basic salvage spare parts. Each unit must be inspected on a case by case basis to evaluate internal condition and serviceability. I do suggest those sending carbs to consider sending their petcock as well. I'll also entertain solo petcock repair as well for members in need. If you've got a non-working junker on the shelf...consider refurb, good to have a working spare. Please PM for further info. Thanks, G

New diaphragms pre-installed on slides...I'm still working out details of a new slide "exchange service"...but a perfect set now in stock, ready for immediate shipment.
Offering a choice...a seamless, "drop in" alternative to avoid the risky diaphragm replacement procedure or to eliminate an extremely expensive dealer new purchase. Furthermore... I'm placing a $$ bounty on slides with worn, torn, deformed, ripped, pinholed diaphragms, I'm reimbursing (reasonable) shipping charges via immediate Paypal as well! Thus aiding others as well....if ya got 'em, send em! Simply PM for shipping info and further detail. Rather than an ebay stranger, please support a fellow member... as I'm here to support you.

a couple recent "victims", though not 250....1st pic Ducati (38mm downdraft Mikuni) and 3 of before/ after EX500
After a medical "slowdown" affecting me in 2018 .....I'm still at this and constantly upgrading and perfecting equipment, materials and methods. Call it what you choose...refurb or restoration but final results go way beyond "carb cleaning".

SHOUT OUT
Huge shoutout to Ducatiman, He recently refurbished my carbs that had been on a bike sitting for almost 4 years. Carbs came back looking brand spanking new and from the time they left my house to when i got them back was not more than 3 days! He really is excellent at what he does and i will use him for sure the next time i have carb problems.

Nice Job Gordy. No, I'm not tired of making carburetors great again.
Gordon would you be interested in dipping a 1956 Mercury Outboard Motor carburetor in your ultrsonic cleaner? I hate to purchase one cleaner for one job. The carb would be stripped except for the throttle valve. Merry Christmes, Bill Albertson

Holy balls I just put these back on my bike....somewhere along it's life my 09 250 lost its R, and @ducatiman found it and gave it back. Its got a growl I haven't heard since its first couple of thousand miles, and after adjusting the pilots it's nimbler than ever. |

Great to hear success Cal. In your case, a number of very minor issues were found and corrected but no major smoking gun. Perhaps cumulative stuff.
Above and beyond the norm, I focus effort and detail on certain obscure components. Going forward, remember to consistently use an ethanol treatment/stabilizer such as Startron, Stabil 360, whatever. Keep them pilot jets clean! Thanks for kind words, G
