If the Costco website didn't return any dealers at all then I might believe the dealer.

I'll be on my 250 but it's good to see that I'll have a couple of local riders with me that will be kind enough to let me try out their brand new Ninja 300s

The dealership here in Hawaii just called me. Said, "I only have the White right now but it has ABS. It's the most expensive one. So it's $5400 and after all the fees it'll be $7400 OTD." The whole time I was thinking...the white doesn't come with ABS. I even asked him about it. He said well, I'm not 100% but the sticker price says $5400 so I'm assuming so. I still don't think he knows what he was talking about. I'm also still strongly debating having one shipped from the mainland. Shipping a bike here would be about $1000...still a lot cheaper!

I just noticed how they put the rear stand on backward.... presumably so it isn't tripped over.

Do you mean if I were to buy it on the mainland? I'm assuming the OTD would include that. I would just keep it registered in whatever state I would buy it. That's the good thing about being part of the military.

OTD does not include any of that if you are from another state. You will end up paying the taxes when you get the bike registered.

Not sure if that's totally true. I'm not a resident of Hawaii but OTD includes all tags at $7400.

That is probably because they assumed you were living in HI. It is an island so it doesn't make sense for someone to go to HI and buy a bike and bring it back to the mainland. I live on the border of SC and GA so when I call the dealerships they always ask which state I live in. For instance when I called the dealerships in SC, they gave me just the MSRP + freight charges because they can't charge me taxes on a state I don't live in.

Just in case anyone doesn't know this... Kawasaki went to market in Indonesia first with the new 2013 Ninja 250 with FI. The used some bullshit leaked cover story that they wanted to get to market in Indonesia first because it is the biggest market worldwide. This is complete crap. What they did was take the Ninja 300 which was being manufactured for US and Europe and sleeved the engine down from 300cc to a gutless 249cc. The result is a sluggish bike that is way worse than the carb 250r ever was because they have a bike designed for a 39hp engine with a kludgy sleeved 249cc workaround that has less HP than the carb 250 version and a much heavier bike etc.. They simply designed it that way to get around the tax laws in Indonesia and get to market before they release the 300 avoiding consumer confusion and keeping their sales up. This really turns me off Kawasaki. I'm keeping my carb 250r here because the FI bikes suck ass big time. I have tried riding one with a PowerCommander and aftermarket exhaust etc. and still very gutless. Everyone I have talked to here says that they are gutless and they can't do anything except maybe re-sleeve the engine to 300cc when an aftermarket kit is available at a reasonable price. **** you Kawasaki. My next bike will be an R6 Yamaha.

What are the bore/stroke dimensions of the 2013 250 in Indonesia? The way Kawi raised the displacement on the 300 was keeping the bore the same, and just lengthening the stroke a bit with a new crankshaft. Seems like it would be even more expensive to sleeve that back down.

@fordendk
i figured they reuse the old engine, instead of redoing the new one. are you saying the tuned EFI bikes are gutless?

Maybe resident motorcycle blogger @taufik-tmcblog could confirm the "sleeve down" of the engine in Indonesia? What other countries kept the 250? Japan, Malaysia, Thailand?...
In retrospect...the 300 should have been made for everybody (regulations aside) |

He's living there and I'm pretty sure he knows what he is talking about. Please read here: http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bike...nja-250r-leak/ or here: http://tmcblog.com/2012/08/01/welcom...ki-ninja-250r/ The new 250 engine must be different to the old one, the cr is lower and the hp is less and at least the bike is heavier. One thing you should know also if you want more power in the CBR250 in US (Europe I don't know) then take the ecu from Thailand. |

Because the figures published show increased power with a slight dip at the very top end, and with a power commander and after market exhaust "etc" you would expect a boost and he claims their is little to none, I also can't imagine the malaysian police force buying 100's of them if they are so guttles, especially since they strap so much gear to them you would expect that to leave them unridable. Too add to that all the other reviews of the 2013 ninja 250 seem to be favorable to its contemporary, and his low post count, and opinions on fatter tyres being much better for the ninja than thin "cheese cutters", and obcessive post counts on how yoshimura carbs are amazing despite most people saying otherwise to the point where he renounces working for yoshimura, doesn't add much to credulity. |

high tax because its a luxury good? i would like to see the reason why. at first i thinking maybe they do it to subsidize road repair, but seems counter intuitive since motorcycle don't really cause much wear to the road surface, and most people wouldn't pay for it.

My insurance (mandatory) would go up by 100% if I wanted a 600cc and 500% for a 1000cc Why? Because you're more likely to kill yourself or others or destroy the bike, thats the reason people get 250cc bikes in the west typically. Plus the demand historically for big bikes in the east with the division of wealth would have meant the demand would have been small and inelastic so why not levy a huge tax? So yeah it's not a bad idea to make the consumer pay. |

imagine buying a computer, and having to pay $800 of tax on top of $1200 of hardware, or Caterham r500 for $60k and them getting charged $30k taxes. in this case you pay $6000 for a ninja 300 and then get charged $4000 in taxes. for 50ccs. might be OK for many people, but it is wrong to me on several levels. insurance is totally different matter, though. the purpose of insurance is clear and those fees take into account all types of risks(repairs, litigation, injury, etc.). it provides protection on several different levels,(care, physical, legal). Quote:
seems like the only success of the tax is that it eliminates an entire market segment nicer bikes. not necessarily faster and more dangerous ones. if there is never a demand then why tax it and decrease demand further? this tax system is a foreign concept to me. i just look at it differently i suppose. a 10% sales tax would have been sufficient and the govt would have collected a lot more revenue, and they could have made a lot more in sales. and then everyone would be happier riding an r6 after crashing a 250
