Well that was a surprise when I woke up this morning.
I swore off TV and news web sites all day yesterday. To all those Hillary supporters that feel upset, just remember the republicans felt the same way 8 years ago, and 4 years ago. The country is still here, it didn't fall apart and it will certainly last another 4 years and we get to go through this crap all over again. |

Trump's win is based on hate, racism, misogyny, and fear. It's founded on voter oppression and suppression, on Comey's interference in the election, in gerrymandering. I am ashamed for my country, and I truly fear where Trump's incompetence and hate will take us. The economic collapse will be far worse than the Bush recession because we don't have as as far to fall as we did from the Clinton economy. I am sure of a few things. Roe v. Wade will be reversed, most likely completely. We will be going back to a time when rape and incest victims were forced to give birth, a time when women died from back-alley abortions. Perhaps we'll even become a nation where pregnancy tests are government regulated and results tracked, to ensure that every positive results in a duly-recorded baby or a murder charge. Imagine a nation where being in possession of an unregistered pregnancy test is a felony; I can. Did you know that until the mid 1970's there were states where it was a crime for a doctor to mention or discuss birth control with her patient? Doctors went to prison. How many Mathew Sheppards are we going to have as American hate of those who are "different" is given power by Trump? Racism, discrimination, bigotry, all of those are embodied in Trump's win. How long before he sets up concentration camps for Muslims and Mexicans. Think it can't happen here? We did it in World War II to Americans of Japanese descent. They were stripped of their property which was sold off to the highest bidders. It's now no longer a question of if, but when. With the gutting and ultimate appeal of the ACA millions of Americans will lose meaningful access to health care, effectively being thrown to the wolves. Tens of thousands will die as a direct result of that alone. I will be one of those. Many more Americans will die in the wars that will inevitably result from Trump's mishandling of foreign policy that will embolden Putin's drive to rebuild the USSR to his vision of its former power and glory, that will give Xi of China the free reign he wants to expand China's power around the world. Our first war will likely be with China, and likely it will progress to nuclear threats or worse. Even though it will be more than two months before Trump takes power, his win will bring out his supporters here on Ninjette who are going to go into attack mode. I have no interest in being subjected to that nastiness, that hate, nor do I have any interest in seeing it done to others. It's not a lack of toughness, no, it's just a lack of interest. I've got more interesting things to do. Learning Japanese is one of those things, as is learning to play piano. With that I say goodbye, so long, and thanks for all the fish. |

Ya i dont see any attacking needed. Im glad he won and Hilary showed her true colors by not even speaking to everyone who came out to see her, sore loser much?
I basically see this as the middle finger to the corrupt establishment, i dont see this as the end of the everything you seem to hold so dear. Overturn Roe v. Wade? Really? You must see something i dont. I hope politics in general start seeing they need to work for the people, not the elite and you cant be bought and paid for. Im not a trump supporter, but i was anyone but Hilary. They shouldnt have undercut Bernie, or yesterday would have ended very differently.

All I can say is I hope all the Hollywood people (and others) who said they would leave the country do it fast before there is a fence and they say they are trapped inside it. I also hope the 1 out of 4 Federal employees who said they would quit live up to that promise.
I would also like to remind everyone of that famous line in "Won't get Fooled Again", by Pete Townshend, "Meet the new boss... same as the old boss." To get Congress to get things done is almost impossible. They have to vote term limits and they won't. Their main purpose is to oppose who is in the White House.

I tend to fall in the moderate Libertarian camp. I generally say let people do whatever they want as long as they're not hurting anyone else, but also hold them responsible for their actions. I don't think we need to destroy every government department and let everything be a free-for-all though. This really was a "who you hate least" election. Only 17.5% of voters actually favored him. Quote:
Quote:
I would say I tend to side with Republicans, though I'm more socially liberal. I saw Obama's terms as "Oh great, lots of nanny government I don't want or need." However, I truly fear the damage that's possible from Trump. My hopes are that the campaign was simply a great bit of showmanship from a reality TV personality and that he won't really act like that once in office, and that he and others in our government realize his inexperience and he's surrounded with good advisors to help him, giving much better results overall. I think his victory speech was a good start to this. I completely understand people's frustration with status quo government. Despite never having voted for a Democrat, I used my primary vote on Bernie. I completely disagree with a lot of his policies, but I felt that he had the best mindset, and him being president would provide the best overall results (when you factor in Congress and other sections of government). I just feel that picking Trump is a crazy way to express that. If you have a bad experience at a dentist, you don't go to a plumber for your next root canal. Hopefully we don't run into a toothache while that guy with brown up to his elbows is standing around... Quote:
Which leads to my opinion that the two-party system is a huge cause of most of our problems. Everything turns into Us vs. Them. You end up with half the population loving something, and the other half hating it. You get both parties picking opposite stances to differentiate from the other. It ends up being the squeaky, extremist wheels getting the grease, and the vast majority of moderate people in the middle lose out. You pick the side that supports your most important values, and you implicitly support their other stances, which you may not care about or maybe even disagree with. But this guy is also for A and against B, so this guy is right and that guy is the devil. Imagine if instead of halves, it was split in thirds. Anything your party does alone is guaranteed to fail. At least two of the three parties (or a subset of multiple parties at least) have to agree on something for it to pass. I think that would do a lot for accomplishing things that are mostly supported by most of the population, as opposed to the current half love/half hate situation. I really feel we need at least three parties involved to achieve the best outcome possible. I just wish Johnson would've hit 5% to make this more likely in '20. We'll see if Trump does anything about this "rigged system" now that he beat it.

If we didn't express our differing opinions we would not be Americans. Maybe this is a common enemy enough for The People to find common ground?
Lets lead by example and work through empathy to elevate collective consciousness. Please do not give up. Pointing fingers and playing the blame game will only deepen the oppositional resolve. It is up to us how things are shaped in the future by where and how we give our time, attention and money. If we spend it on one another, we might just come out alright.

You will meet and make friends with people of all walks of life, races, creeds, religions, sexual preferences, identifications, smart, black, white, asian, muslim and everything else under the sun. This is not the end of the world as we know it. Just go ride... we are all in this together, and together is the only way it works. Have honor to yourself, internal peace, offer a handshake and helping hand to those who don't expect it.

I get the impression that his skill is mainly management. He surrounds himself with managers that he feels are good at what they do, assigns them work, lets them do their jobs, then puts the results to use. If I'm right, most of what he does will be listening to other people's advice. Of course only time will tell if I'm right.

To all of my liberal-leaning friends, remember that Trump isn't actually a conservative, at least not like conservatives are typically branded, and remember that the president isn't some sort of supreme power in this country. Things aren't going to be as bad as you think.
