I've always used K &N filters so I've nothing to compare to. is there anybody that's used both Wix and K&N & prefer one over the other? Was lookin for the wix filters but stopped since I found a place that only sells K&N

I've always preferred wix, was super disappointed I could only find a fram.
On my WRX forums there were comparisons done and WIX was always much higher quality and had a higher flow rate.

yep, it used to be called the "gold" filter series, but they've renamed it "NPS" for NAPA Power Sports, hence the PS prefix, I guess. just bought one last week from NAPA and it still says they are made by WIX.

Question What oil do you guys use?

My Ninja just got better!
Replaced my oil and filter for the first time since I bought my Ninja, about a month ago.
I feel that if I treat my bike as well as I can it won't try and kill me in the twisties. That is why I stuck Castrol Power1 in it.
!!!WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!
It feels like a completely different machine, it's so much smoother, although I'm not sure if that's because of the expensive oil I used or the fact that the stuff already in it was filthy.
Anywayz, I'm interesting in finding out the different brands of oil other people use, so please, do share

I use Mobile 1 full synth in all my vehicles. Just got some Mobile 1 4T racing synthetic for the ninja. I doubt it's much different from the normal stuff but it's all that came in 10w40. I'll probably order amsoil next time though, this was the best I could find local.

I bet you could find all sorts of different brands of oil used in the 50 or so other posts about oil and brands... just a thought.
I personally like the Amsoil Synthetic

I use Kawasaki High Performance motorcycle oil (10w-40). I get it for about $5 a quart from a local motorcycle shop. I'm currently @ 850ish miles and once I'm fully broken in (apprx. 2000 miles) I'm going to switch to full synthetic (most probably the Shell Rotella T6 5w-40).

Currently running Valvoline 10w40 for another 200 miles then after that still deciding between Mobil 1 4T 10w40 or Shell Rotella T6 5w40

Just avoid vegetable and olive oil, and you should be golden

Personally I run Valvoline, semi-synthetic or full synthetic because I seem to find better deals with them. Right now I'm using some 'motorcycle' oil that I got for relatively low price.

I changed the oil in my motorcycle about a month ago and I've only ridden about 200km since then using a K&N filter and MotoMaster Formul 1 10w-40 with synthetic WEARGUARD. I've done some research on this oil and I couldn't find any conclusive evidence as to whether or not it is harmful to my motorcycle. Can anybody shed some light on whether or not its OK?

The Shell Rotella stuff seems to be ultra hard to find in Canada.

Does anyone have any opinions or experience with Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40? How many miles should this last for?

Not really the answer I was looking for

I've changed the oil on my cars and track before, so I know how to change the oil and when. But, each oil has a different lifetime, as well as reliability, whch was what I was asking.

I don't know about the reliability part, but usually my oil light starts staying on longer after about 2,500 miles or so. Usually I change it right around every 3000.

2,500??? I've put nearly 3,600 miles with no light at all. I'm gonna do an oil change at 7,000.

yeah. I'm also kinda anal about that. If it stays on for a second longer than normal, I watch it really close every time that I start it. But yeah usually 3-3.5k is when I change oil. I just buy a few filters at a time. Oil is only a few dollars at wally world, and I go from there.

that only ends up being the beginning of the season, and the middle of the season for me. Not bad at all

and how much do you pay for that rotella?

buying fancy oil is like buying high octane gas when you have 11-1 compression pistons. it makes you feel better because you are paying more for nothing.

I get the quarts because they are easier to deal with than the gallons, and I reuse them to store and recycle the old oil

Unfortunately amazon is out, haven't changed my oil in a while XD

you know that if you spent the same amount of money on more of cheaper oil, and changed it more often, your engine would actually be in better condition

Lol, I don't have a set budget for oil, I can afford the $15 it costs for an oil change every 3000 miles. It's not the cost that prevents me from changing it more often, I'd do it more but I'm lazy... And disabled
