I offer these pics of our 14 yo novice rider we are supporting on my 250. This is Andrew's first year of road racing and he did a 1:29.1 at Las Vegas last round at WERA!

Also, if you could go to his facebook page Andrew Lee Racing and give him a "Like" it would help us tremendously in regards to finding him some sponsors. Thanks in advance everyone!

Liked! I'm jealous of these young guys getting into racing so early. I won't be able to until after college.

It's like skiers; the younger people start, the more fearless they are.

Guy in third is totally tucking the front while 2nd is losing the rear on corner entry(to much ride height in the rear) while the guy in 1st looks perfect and in the position to prove it.

So, it seems like this is more of a circle jerk, save for a few worthy of posting their pictures, of people wanting to be included.

@Motofool has pretty much answered the question. Let me rephrase:

1.) Increased lean does NOT necessarily mean speed.
2.) The 250 doesn't need that much lean to go through a corner at an equivalent or greater speed than a bigger/heavier bike.
3.) The frame and suspension of the 250 is not built for such extreme angles and gets quite dangerous. The bike construction doesn't lend to Moto-GP lean angles - the footpegs and frame are too wide, the controls are too wide, the exhaust is too wide and the tires are not wide enough.

There is another issue here which has not been mentioned, and that is tire profile. A race and road ride of an equivalent width would look completely different. A road tire is almost an exact semi circle on it's profile. A race tire looks more like the "sharp" side of an egg. The reason for this is so that when you are riding on the side of the tire it has a greater profile providing grip, and when up and down it has less rolling resistance.

So, considering just the tire profile and Motofool's equation, the 250 doesn't have the power, for the speed to be able to provide enough centripetal force to be able to get that low, nor does it support tire sizes (except for the 120/150 mods) to accommodate race tires with the appropriate profiles.

To make a 250 lean like a MotoGP bike:
1.) Get a moto gp racer.
2.) redesign the entire bike with a box frame optimized for side-flex since the forks effectively stop working at extreme lean angles and a narrow frame width for foot positions which will clear extreme lean angles and an underslung or tail exhaust
3.) add 20hp
4.) run at least 120/150 race profile tires

Now, back to your regular scheduled circle jerk.

No, that is not a safe assumption. I have passed and have been passed while not not having good form. It also has been posted on this site, a 3mph knee drag with extreme hang off.

Sometimes, when the track has the traction, tires have the grip and the bike has the lean, the rider can be awarded a lot of freedoms of body position and style. On any given day, style can vary wildly between any 2 riders, one of the fastest guys I know rides as we call it "all crossed up" but somehow makes it work. Under "my" ideal conditions, have learned I can lean a bike so far over, the what we read as "textbook" body position has to be somewhat altered. When your butt is off the seat, chin down next to hand on the grip, both knees are against the tank (hips not open to the corner), my elbow became the limit to my lean angle but it was the only way I could get the pace I wanted through the corners. The first time it happened, I instantly pulled my elbow in closer, getting it off the tarmac. I am sure if anyone caught it on camera or video, my body position would have looked a bit more like a spider on the side of the bike rather than a rider on the front of a magazine. And check Nemesis's pic, his outside knee is definitely not locked under the tank lip but it works for him.

@alex.s Winner???!!!! hahahahahah

@Nemesis - Awesome pic yo, did you have to cut the fairing to get your clipons under the top triple?

How much can a 250 deviate from vertical in a properly performed turn with only rubber, elbow and knee (and maybe head) touching the pavement.

What Unregistered , GP tracks, GP pilots, GP tires and GP bikes have to do with that question?

Just the normal thread lingering away from the original post.

Couple of things @spooph;

When I created this thread, I knew it would eventually get filled with pics, fun is allowed here. And... if they deserve to be here or not, is quite frankly, not up to either of us.

Try not to come off as such a @%@!#$%@$%^, having a bad day?

Even though... thanks for restating what is already elsewhere in the thread or never gunna happen. And if you would kindly point me in the direction of where I can procure a V profile tire for the 2fiddy, I would very much so appreciate it.

@csmith12 sorry! I didn't mean to come off as a total jerk! I should have put some more smilies in my response. I meant it to be sarcastic and a humorous segway in between the fodder and the information. I have a hard time figuring out how rough I can play with people. My bad!

Well, I guess I should have read your sig, my error too.

Seriously, do they even make a V profile for the 250? And if they did would it be any better than a slick in terms of lean angle.

I may need to revisit Motofools equation a bit more because I still have a hard time with tire size in regard to lean. Tards to some incredible things with skinny tires. But they are just that... not 250's. It would also make logical sense that the sharper you turn the more circular force is generated, which would compensate somewhat for the lack of power from the 250. But I am sure the forces cannot be sustained by turning alone on the 250 and would eventually overrun the tires grip. dunno.... Science is not my strong suit.

We have chatted about the 250 frame in this thread already and per race rules we can't mod it much or at all, same with wheels. I guess the options are limited and I am chasing something that cannot be.

On a side note. This type of thread exists on other forums and it always ends up the same way. A bunch of pics from everyone and all styles and types of bikes. But that is fine, it's all in good fun. From where I come from, we are not big on rules.

Pictures are good!

I run diablo rosso corsas on my track wheels, 120 and 150 on a regular rim. With the regular rim it pinches the tire in, and although not a wonderful solution, the edge of the tire ends up being completely vertical, which means when I scrape hard parts the tire still has 0.75" of chicken strip. I'm no good on the track, and usually the slowest, and the only way to use more of that tire is to narrow the bottom middle of the frame, where the rearsets bolts on to provide more clearance.

Are there any other factors? Also, definitely agreed on more pics!
