Although I haven't tried it, I agree with cbinker that the rear tire will lock up even with the slipper clutch.
Anyone willing to experiment? Go 55mph in 4th gear, then pull in the clutch and let the RPMs drop to idle, then click down twice to 2nd gear and pop the clutch out as fast as you can. I think 55mph in 2nd gear is pretty close to redline. I doubt there the slipper clutch in our 300 is capable of slipping from 1300rpm to 12,000rpm without transferring some of that resistance to the rear tire. Would a higher quality slipper clutch on SS bikes be able to handle that much abuse? |

I hope you get it asap and do a writeup please, I'm curious about
The Yami here in LoS is 650 USD less than the N300. Quote:
By the way you're right, from idle to 12000 the slipper wouldn't help I think also. |

Will be doing better than that, check the RC390 thread, a mate I track with has one. (and its drop dead gorgeous in the flesh but I wont tell him that ) he's 6 months ahead in development but will be a good gauge for the R3.

But it wont lock up the rear tyre. *And to stay on topic - Nor will the R3 lock up unless the piston goes out the side of the block. |

The best response one can have assuming they are riding at an advanced level already. Pretty sure intentionally doing stuff like that is risky if you haven't mastered core riding techniques

And for those who don't know.. the 06-08 r6 has a slipper. lol So that means... slipper or not, you can slide the rear if you're hard enough on the brakes. But, please don't read this as proper riding. It's sloppy, it's not smooth and I wouldn't advise doing anything like this until you have had 100% confidence for a considerable amount of time. Basically, this is a stepping stone along the way to building the skill of "backing it in" on purpose, instead of by accident. Do NOT try this at a stop light. hahahahahah

Oh god no.... if you locked it hard enough to flat spot it, then . You're not ready. Sliding it or getting the rear out of shape is not quite the same as locking it up. Even though the rear tire loses traction due to engine speed vs. rolling speed, it should never just stop spinning. That would kill one of the biggest gyro's keeping the bike stable, even though it's somewhat unstable at the given moment. hahahahahah

100% for sure! Doing that stuff to that extent doesn't lend itself to faster lap times, which goes back to the "fun factor" I was talking about. If your not out there having fun, then go back home.

I wonder if that will actually make a difference. I assume it's still going to be a hard tire like the one we all know and love/hate.

Their new RX-02 which will replace the RX-01s the Ninja 300s came with from the bits and pieces I've seen of their debut in Asia are supposed to be much better than the RX-01 in grip, wet weather, and durability. I'd be interested to try out a set when they become available fully in the U.S. |

clutch differences:
kawi (self-servo, ramp style): honda (ramp style): yamaha (single ball servo plus outer hub ramp style): i even looked up fancy ones in ducatis and which are basically identical to suzuki clutches. basically, its all the same ****. ducati's sound like ass because they are ******. also the slipper ramp clacks at idle because the ramps have play. and being dry means theres no cushion to make it queit. essentially, its ****, but your oil stays cleaner.

my dealership has a blue one now. gonna walk in there on Tuesday and see what they'll say. they got a bunch of 2014 Ninja 300's they can't sell so hopefully they'll take my offer. If not, I wont be too worried... I'll just ride home on my mint 20103 Ninja 300 that I paid bout half what most guys are getting their R3's for.
