Nickel is from when the mint struck 3-cent and 5-cent copper-nickel coins. They were called "5 cents nickel". The Mint dropped the three cent and the 5 cent name was shortened to "nickel".

Dime is an Americanization of a French word meaning 1/10th.

Quarters are a hold over from when Spanish coins were allowed in circulation. Seems we were supposed to have a 10 based system but by the time they tried making that official, the 25 cent piece was too engrained.

Removed the semi floating rotor buttons and blaster the rotor in preparation for the brembo full floating buttons I'm getting tomorrow. Going to hit the brake pads with some sand paper as well to get a nice fresh bedding of the front brake. Since I have the alum center carrier off I was thing of getting it anodized or power coated orange or simply leaving it black and continuing my stealth look. What do you think?

I like the visual look of "whatever color your brake lines are". So if you have black lines, then I say leave it black.

I was thinking of getting orange lines but at the same time I don't want it to look cheesy. Some stuff looks good in color others don't, I paint orange over the black and if I don't like it I can use brake cleaner to clean it off. If orange words then its off to the anodizers.

So as I'm here at the shop pacing back and forth wait for USPS to deliver my master cylinder and rotor buttons I figured I'd paint my rotor to see what orange would look like. I primered then painted it white so the black wouldn't bleed through when I laid the orange down. I've never seen a white rotor carrier before but if you had a white bike or white brake lines I think this would look sick

But I've always had a thing for orange

Finally got around to installing my new shifter which isn't rusted into a fixed position! Omg shifts are so smooth now.

Also put on a new gen brake pedal (matte black), which looks a lot better than my old bent/beat up silver one.

Ordered matching front footpegs for my rear purpleishpink ones. #savetheboobies

put the battery back in and went for a short ride. my goal is to ride at least once every month through the winter. Kind of tough in Illinois, early this week I went ice fishing, then it hit 58` today. I'm going to skip draining the carbs this year and just keep the battery inside charging.

I recently put a pair of Oxford Sports Humpback Panniers and a real carbon fiber fuel cap overlay on my 03'. Just installed heated grips and a 12v power source for cell, gps and any other gadgets. I really needed the grips bad as Ive been commuting 140 miles a day round trip from Sacramento to Napa for work. Next Im gonna fab up some wind deflectors to keep the wind chill off my hands.

Sorry Katherine... Yeah, the grey thing is a motion pro quick turn throttle, it basically reduces the throw of your throttle so you get WOT without turning it so much... Lots of fun, but you need to be careful with it...

Awesome work. I don't have front brakes but if I did I would want that.

Does the motion pro cable come with ends you make yourself?

Motion Pro throttle is a complete ready to use kit cut to length and ready to drop right in. I let them use my bike for the mockup so them could creat the kit, down side they kept my bike for like 4 hours, the up side is it was all free

They'll make custom cables to your specs if you call them up or fill out their custom cable order data sheet.

That is why I asked . Making cables is a VERY complex thing. My next bike will need a new cable set up. Thanks for the info.

I have a nice little First Aid kit in my bag that I got for christmas. Hopefully won't need it. But it's nice to be prepared!

I rode my bike to Mainland Powersports in Cream Ridge, NJ and had my Shogun crash kit installed. I have a 9 month year old daughter and very busy on weekends or i would have installed myself. I brought my bike to shop at 11 am, thinking I was going to have to leave it there for three or four days. But at 2:30 the shop called me and I was able to pick it up same day. I had a nice ride to and from the shop, but the roads were a little wet.

Rode all around town until I found a pair of Held Phantoms in my size. Also my 'test ride' for my Contour+2 camera -- ran out of space on my card, and the video files are huge but it was a fun day! The new gloves are AMAZING.

I just got Held Phantoms recently too and I think they are awesome gloves so far.

Today I dropped off my Ninja 300 at the Corbin factory in Hollister, CA to let them use it for R&D. They'll have it until the beginning of Feb, but I think the free seat will be totally worth it
