Hahaha! Excellent marketing indeed. I saw on the yahoo homepage they had an article about this bike. Non-motorcyclists know about this bike because of their marketing. Spark an interest in non bikers and maybe they will walk into the Kawi dealers and walk out with a bike.

The marketing has been fantastic. I love the idea of all of Kawasaki Heavy Industries together to pull out all the stops for one project. its made me look at new Kawasaki bike with interest where there was none before. so +1 rider good job Kawasaki

I like the h2 a lot more than the h2r, the headlight adds some character and turning those dumb wings into mirrors just looks more natural. The new R1 is more useable, looks cooler, and comes in almost 9 grand less though. If I were in the market I'd go for that instead.

I would definitely consider the panigale at that price point but I'd actually lean towards the 899 instead of the 1299 The r1m is at the top of my list with the r1 being a close second

That H2 is very... stocky looking. It reminds me of a bulldog. It doesn't exactly scream "athletic" to me though, just bulky and stocky.

The sound is intoxicating. I love my Kawi but I don't know if I could drop 25K on a new bike. but i guess you get what you pay for, it is a Japanese Hyper Bike.

Maybe the H2R should be H2CC for closed course, but that would make people confuse it with cubic center meters, or CC Cowboy. I think it is cool for the sake of technology, but where can it actually be raced? Drag racing, salt flats, etc? Can't put it on the grid in any road racing series.

It'd be easier to make an attractive muffler if they didn't need to be so darn big!

Ehhhhh, I don't think it has to be big to be effective (insert secksual inyourendo here). Kawi just likes making giant cans because it's bulky and matches whatever style they're going for. Look how small the muffler is on the GSXR, R6, S1000RR, etc. I think the EPA compliance is responsible for the heavy pre-muffler catalytic converter that sits just in front of the swingarm. Looks are responsible for whatever ugliness the manufacturer makes the can out of.
Besides, larger=quieter is more for aftermarket cans that rely on a volume of glass packing to muffle, not OE cans that use a labyrinth of compartments to muffle sound. Those can be made as large or as small as the OEM wants, just takes some design. |

They all have to be of similar capacity to meet the same noise regulations. Some other manufacturers solve the problem by having large collectors under the engine, more out of view; then they tack on a small end can that isn't really doing much. If there is less space for such a collector, it means that the standard exhaust position is on the hook for much more. There's no easy button here, they all have to pass the same drive-by noise tests.

Yeah, I can conceptualize that and see how my previous statement is a little flawed. But I'm still betting they bulk it up more for appearance.

Still wondering how the R-version is track-ready with no lower fairing (needs to be able to hold all the oil the engine contains).
