oh man, you should have reminded me you were having possible radiator issues... I had a newgen radiator that I could have sent to you for free from when I was doing my engine swap!
Sorry about forgetting about your project here, Rebecca... |

I've seen globs of gloggy goop in cooling systems before, even without stop-leak. My Plymouth Voyager's heater quit working, and when I reverse flushed that line a bunch of grey glop came out.

Put engine ice in early on and used it since. Replaced a few times since I've had it. Flushed with distilled water previously. Dealing with the grey goo recently made me give up on the distilled cuz I needed way too much water to flush it out.

Also I painted the coolant overflow bottle so it sticks out less on my now completely naked bike. It's more naked than the street triple...

Tl;dr: oh hey I have cool new turn signals that don't mount on the side fairings.
Since I no longer have most of the fairings on my bike, I had to come up with a way to mount front turn signals. My first idea was using the ZX-10R mirrors with the built-in turn signals since they are a direct fit and the connectors are the same. However I discovered that the mirror placement ended up being pretty terrible. I swapped back to the stock mirrors and briefly turned my running lights into turn signals. I just replaced the connectors on them to for the turn signal connectors and swapped to amber bulbs. It worked but they weren't really that bright. I just got the Motogadget m-blaze pin turn signals. Since I have exposed holes where fairings used to mount, I found a convenient set next to the headlights to pop them in. They are super small and super bright. The light is on the end of an M8 bolt with the wires coming out of the end of the bolt. A nut has to slide over the wires to secure the turn signal. They are annoying to put on and take off though since I insist on using OEM connectors; the connector doesn't fit through the necessary nut so I have to remove the pins from the connector. I might drill a hole directly into the frame right below where I currently have the signals mounted since the plastic feels less secure and I might be removing more plastic anyway.

Making some major changes to the Ninja 300. Replacing the clipons with full handlebars and swapping to a standard headlight bucket with an adaptive headlight. So far I've drilled out existing holes in the top triple clamp to mount the handlebars. Realized I now need longer throttle cables which will likely need to be a custom order. Idk how I'm gonna remount the stuff that was on the front plastics or fairing stay yet.

Slow progress on this cuz I've been busy and I keep needing to order parts.
Painted the frame. I didn't strip the frame so not a perfect paint job but it looks good enough. Needed to bring some green back since the only original green parts left now are the front fender and gas tank.

Finally got all the cables I needed and put everything on the controls together, minus one mirror. Custom length throttle cables from motion pro were almost the cost of a throttle kit so **** it, I got the throttle kit. Takes up less room on the handlebars anyway. Also needed a longer clutch cable.
Painted the steering stem bolt too cuz I had extra paint from painting the frame anyway so why not. Made a bracket to remount the R/R on an existing bolt hole on the frame. Still need to make mounting points for the front turn signals. I could just buy different headlight brackets that include a turn signal mounting point but I don't really feel like spending that much more on my pile of junk lol. Kind of want to get a smaller left hand controls housing so I have room for a separate mirror mount. Not sure I like the angle the mirror gets forced into when I have the clutch lever at an appropriate position. Also have an idea to mount a button to open the garage door that would be powered only when the bike is on.

You can attach some corner brackets to headlight mounting bolt. That’ll give you something to attach turn-signals to.
https://www.lowes.com/pd/National-Ha...ace/1000226477 Maybe find an L-shaped one so you can space turn signals as far out as you want. |

I decided to drill a hole directly into the headlight bracket to mount turn signals. And go figure, the turn signal that isn't scratched up from my bike getting knocked over is the one that works I guess I need new turn signals again since there's nothing that can be done with an LED gone bad.
Oh and I replaced the stock coolant overflow tank with a motion pro one.

Wow apparently I've run this thing long enough for the OEM turn signal flasher to die. It went from slow, erratic blinking to no lights and a continuous buzzing from the flasher. Now I'm wondering if my last turn signals are actually still functional and it was just the flasher. Anyway, got an electronic flasher that slides onto the OEM location. Very strange not hearing the clicks and whirs of a mechanical flasher anymore.

I realized I didn't mention my adventures with a theft attempt last summer! Parked in Oakland for literally only just 2-3 hours directly outside the building I was in and came back out to find that someone had clearly tried to steal my bike via brute forcing the ignition. The backside was cracked but not broken through. The top part was damaged enough that I could no longer stick a key in to disengage the steering lock to tow it myself. Oh and they dented the top of my headlight for some reason???
I bought a complete used key set off ebay and got to work trying to figure out how to replace everything. Couldn't remove the top triple tree with the steering lock still in place and couldn't make a proper attempt to drill out the ignition module with it still on the bike cuz drilling upside down in a cramped spot isn't great. I ended up just obliterating the ignition so that the internal parts fell out and disengaged the steering lock. Now the security screws... I tried drilling them out but damn that metal is hard and I gave up on that. I needed to use my bike immediately though so in the meantime, I essentially figured out how to hotwire my bike and then threw on a secondary kill-switch hidden elsewhere on the bike. I won't go into wiring details publicly because I don't want to make things easier for lurking thieves but I will say that Kawi's ignition design is so simple yet genius for preventing petty thieves from easily hotwiring the bike without knowledge of the design. It certainly frustrated me to hell when I could get the display to turn on but the bike just wouldn't start lol. Anyway, I got my mechanic to drill out the security screws for me and then installing and connecting the new ignition was simple. I certainly learned some new things from this experience but l hope to never have to do this again. Kinda sad that my little Ninja doesn't get much use nowadays since the NC700X has taken over primary commuting duties.
