Smoke from exhaust

Bought a used engine, 4k miles. Was sitting in a crate on its front side for who knows how long(0-8 years). Placed in bike, filled with oil, and as it heats up smoke starts coming out of exhaust and a little out of the exhaust ports on the engine. Is there anything wrong with just running the bike for 20 minutes to see if the smoke goes away? I have another 10 days or so to return the engine...

The smoke is pretty thick I can lose a little visibility if I keep it in the garage for a minute or two....

Most likely (hopefully) just oil seepage. As long as you're sure you got everything good with fluids, there should be no major problems by running it for a bit to see if the smoking stops. It shouldn't take 20 mins to know the deal though. 5-10 mins is gunna tell the tale.

Good luck!

If they prepped the engine for storage, it could be the fogging oil or ATF they placed in the cylinders. But that should burn off pretty quickly.

if its got oil and water, run it until it does something. if it keeps smoking, its burning oil which means skirts or valve guides are going, or its insanely rich on fuel. if the oil level goes down you know which.
