Wits end. No spark.

Got a 1994(12/1993) ninjette that wasn't running.

Doesn't have spark. Turns over great.

Came with an alarm, took it off.

No spark, so I figured some where the alarm wiring was preventing it from sparking so I I swapped wiring harness.

Harness I got was a 95+, so I repinned the control switches, wired up ignition to a toggle per instructions on one of the ninja sites, swapped to 95+ junction Tried relinning for older cdi too but still, turns over, does not spark.

So it's and -94 bike, with a 95+ harness/junction box,with no soark.
Turns over, safety switches bypassed. Still have extra grey wire at cdi igniter, nothing I tried made a difference there.

Hmm..... Who can maybe shed a light?

Could this have something to do with the 100 ohm "theft deterent resistor"?

Take a look at

http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...tor#post803848

and also do a search for "resistor" in the pregen threads.

Check all safety switches.

See if you have positive current to the red wires on the coil. Then see what happens when you crank. The black or green wire on the other side of the coil should switch from positive to negative when you crank.

So I used a I had found for the ignition switch, an of course can't find it now.

Anyone have that saved? I used a 100ohm resistor in there but I guess it's worth rechecking.

Does the older cdi box even care about the grey wire? It doesn't have a hookup for it at cdi box even...

Also, thinkin on the subject...

I feel like my problem is probably that I have the newer harness, I have ignition wired according to specs for the newer harness, but connection to cdi are repinned to match the old style. I feel like some where something isn't matching because I'm mixing so many things but I just can't see yet where I've slipped up

Evan came by with his bike. Even though he had a different wiring harness and a hand full of ignition control units. And his key is bypassed with a toggle switch non of it was the problem.
Of all the bikes I have worked on I have never see a bad pick up. Until now. There was just no signal to the control unit. Fortunately he had a spair with a good gasket. A quick swap and we had spark.

Fun day

whoa. yeah. shouts out to racer!

These little bikes are really nice and simple, considering Im bridging electrical generations all over the place....only thing I can figure out quite yet is the ignition, but I will probably swap that out for a mini keyed switch, weight saving and such....

yeah bad pickup! started right up, until the carbs flooded out like crazy....to be sorted ASAP.

Can't wait to start commuting on the old girl!
