Rear Shock Question for 86-87
I prowled around the forum looking for an answer, but came up with nothing.
I have an 86 and the suspension is super tired. Will the 08-12 rear shock bolt in like it does with the pregen? I already bought stiffer fork springs and 15w oil.

Also, will the 13-17 300 shock work?
That would give me some dumber, more expensive, unnecessary optinons. |

Assuming the '86 is the same as my '05, yeah, they bolt right up. I run a 300 shock and did zero modding to fit it. It's not a bad upgrade either.

From what I can see online, it looks like the '86 uses a very similar shock (a lot like the EX500 design, with threaded preload adjuster) and it says the length is about the same. If it were me, I'd try it.
My understanding is that the 300 uses the same shock as the NewGen, possibly with slightly different valving inside. Either one should work the same for a swap.

Well, I guess the worse case scenario is that I have a spare shock laying around for the next pregen 250 I turn into a canyon carver.
Now all I need is a single sided exhaust (literally almost bought a whole bike because it already had a Muzzy installed) |

Which spring did you buy? For pre-gen or new-gen shock?
Check out my comparison here: https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=337292 Best to stick with existing shock for its smooth preload-adjusters. Much better than new-gen or 300 design with just 5-click adjustment. |

The pregen muzzy pipe fits on this thing, right?
I'm having a hard time even finding a picture of an 86-87 with a single sided exhaust. |

LOL, the fork springs from race tech can't fit inside 86/87 fork tubes.
Dude in customer service is all: "My spec sheet says they're supposed to be 36mm or 37mm" So I sent him a picture of my calipers showing 35mm... "You sure someone didn't swap forks at some point?" DUDE, just update your database. I don't even want to return the springs. I'll definitely own another pregen at some point. |
