Thanks a bunch everyone... I had a few ideas that i was thinking on doing some modifications to some of the gauges... i like the idea of having a gear indicator but the big problem there is the cable driven speedo so then throw in the close gear ratios and the indicator goes on the fritz...
Not sure if im going to do this one... if it is even necesary or if i even could(even with the help of a fried who is an electrical engineer) but i was thinking something that ran off of the shift lever mechanism itself to be a step coutner...

But anyways i do want to work on improving the amazing gas gauge and so i was thinking since they now automatically switch to the reserve... I make a set up that is more acurate for the non reserve tank(we will call it tank A) that goes full E when it hits the reserve, then an LED inside the gauge comes on letting me know i am on reserve and the gauge itself throws a switch and goes back to full... then running an indication level of the reserve tank(B)
In other words, fully filled up, the gas tank would show fully pegged, then just before it was at the reserve it would show completely empty. Once it hit reserve, it would show completely full again but with an indicator light. and so on....
I know a lot of people tend to think low of the gas gauge and just use the odometer to figure out what kinda of amount they have left, but what do you guys think of my idea?

There isn't a separate reserve tank. All "reserve" means on an older carbureted bike is that there are two tubes at the bottom of the tank, and the tubes are at different heights. The normal tube is positioned higher than the reserve tube. Once gas is no longer over the normal tube, the bike sputters until you manual switch the petcock to the reserve position, which then pulls gas from the lower-mounted tube. It's a foolproof system to let you know you only have X amount of gas left (usually a little less than a gallon on most bikes).

The 250 got rid of that reserve setup for the 2008+ versions, as it put in a gas gauge instead. There is no separate reserve tube, separate reserve tank, or anything else of the sort. The petcock doesn't automatically switch over to anything.

I knew about the idea of it using two petcocks but only having one tank but i have thought the 08 and 09 models had the reserve still built in because i thought i had seen pictures of the tube assembly from inside the tank...
