yay new blue ninjette---pissed wife --ramble post

when i brought up that i wanted to by a bike my wife rolled her eyes and didn't want to talk about it. she said it was immature...blah blah blah

i tried to bring it up that it was something that i've always wanted ...and with my 40th birthday coming up i figured i'd treat myself...

i told that i wanted to discuss it. but she didn't want to talk about it

....long story short

I bought a used 2009 ninjette with 900kms on it..i'm happy and she's pissed

geez i figure she'll get over

i feel better now

sorry for the ramble

i just had to put that out there -- i imagine someone has been in the same situation.

she sounds kinda like a bitch if you ask me. i can understand being against it, but she sounds like she thinks of you like her dog. to not even talk about it with you i think is just as bad as you buying it without her agreeing to the expense. have fun, be careful, enjoy the ride.

If you haven't yet, take the MSF, show her you're trying to be safe. Buy all the right gear, and be at least MTGATT.

She'll get over it. My parents don't want to talk about anything that they're not supportive of. Like buying my ninja, going on roadtrips, joining the be the match registry for bone marrow donation(I think it's a good thing) or joining the military (haven't done yet, but it'll happen). I'm old enough to do what I want but with my culture I'm kind of expected to live at home until I'm married (gonna be a while...) So now i just force them to listen to my ideas. Just sit her down and tell her you tried to talk to her, this is what makes YOU happy. After she gets over it, try to introduce her to the idea of taking an MSF course, even if she doesn't think she'll ride after. Usually after taking the course people see how much fun it can be. Good luck, Have fun with the new bike

Im in the same boat UBnewbie... what is with canadian women =)

my wife has NEVER gotten over why I ride. I actually owned 2 600s a year back (one as my commuter and one reserved for track days) I never got to track my bike and to appease the wife I was forced to sell them both or deal with the consequences (daaa daaa dummm)

So I sold the 2 600s and picked up a beautiful 2011 pearl white/ebony ninja a few months later for a really great price ( I gave legitimate reasons for the purchase such as on a mission to obtain my M and huge reduction in insurance and maintenance etc...) at that time she was ok with it

Now it seems that everytime I mention riding my bike, or bikes in general, it sends the wife into a raging frenzy.

My girlfriend and Mum hated the idea. They would assume i was just being "silly" though and wouldnt give it another thought.... until i rounded up the cash and started looking for one. My girlfriend threatened to leave me if i bought it and she was dead serious... I bought it anyway, She didnt leave me, She even commented on how nice it was in amongst her anger and eventually she got on the back of it for a quick loop in our street. Even after i lowsided it on a roundabout and ended up in hospital for the day she came with me to get a new bike. She still worries about me when im riding but she has accepted the fact that I ride a motorcycle and theres not much she can do about.

Moral of the story
A few days/weeks of anger and woman fury is worth a lifetime of riding.

i think it was wrong of you to say something like this maybe she does care about him a lot and she doesn't want anything to happen to him you don't know his situation it could be true but let him say so if thats the story

After seeing so many posts like this, I can't help but form the opinion that most women have the same set of goals for their lives. Land a man, and then change everything about him. I can SORT OF understand the anger & difficulty when a man suddenly decides he wants to ride, but for those women who marry a man who already owns a bike, and then try to make his life miserable until he finally sells it.....they need to grow old alone.

When you just stand back, factor EVERYTHING out and take a wide view of your life. We're here for a relatively short time, and given all the difficulties that come with daily life, doesn't EVERYONE deserve to do something that brings joy into their lives?

Personally, I'd rather be eternally single than have to bow to the will of anyone else. I hope she does get past your decision to insert a little happiness into your life, but if she doesn't, pick up your toys and leave.

Being a girl that hasn't ever cared about the SO riding, maybe you can point out you riding is your purse and shoe shopping, done all at once.

Welcome Frank.

Point out to her that this is your mid-life crisis, maybe she'll be happy that your focus is a newgen with two wheels, rather than a newgen with two (hot) legs. lol

I've told my wife before that I was ready to trade her in for a new model...

I would advise caution on this tactic...

It's interesting that she's not discussing why she doesn't want you to have a bike. The assumptions above are that she's worried about your safety or wasting money.

What if she's worried that you're having a mid-life crisis and are using the bike to attract other women? I mean, isn't that why men buy shiny things during their mid-life?
