Photochromic Shield?
http://209.217.224.101/~shild/produc...oei-rf1000.php
Anybody have any experience with these (or something like it)? I'm tired of lugging around 2 different face shields. |

Not sure about that one, but this one is made by Shoei and is coming out soon (oops - looks like Jan 2014). Pretty pricey. I'm going to wait for reviews and think about buying one. I hate having to lug around 2 visors also.

120 is the usual price on ebay or various other manufacturers.
I bought one for my bell star carbon and no complaints. It's definitely pricey, but it works as advertised. Staring directly at the sun requires you to squint, but any glancing glare or side-lighting is filtered well. As stated by many people, it doesn't get as dark as a true tinted visor, but it's nice for night riding when it clears up. I was told it takes about ten minutes for a full 'transition' in direct sunlight. UV light is what causes the shifts, so your rate of change may be affected by your location. Does anyone with this visor notice rainbow halos around bright lights at night when the visor is very clean? Perhaps the drugs haven't worn off yet, but it's been years so I dunno. |

I really want to get a Bell helmet just because of the photochromatic shield but I can't justify getting another helmet

There is this little $5 tint strip I got from Road Rider that clings to the outside top inch or so of my clear lens. Works really well. Just a cheap alternative.

I sprung for the Transitions shield on the Bell RS-1 I recently bought. Both purchases were totally worth the price.

Yeah I wish mine would get a little darker as well, but the technology isn't there yet.
I've considered a 35%VLT tint on the inside of the visor, but I think it'd be too dark at night. |
