A Few Quid Later...

I've gone British.

I sold my 250 on Tuesday and picked up this '09 Triumph Daytona 675 on Friday! To be honest, I had no plan to upgrade to a supersport, rather I was looking to buy a SV650n. But, out of curiosity, got a few insurance quotes on a few SS bikes since, as of late, I've been hitting a few local twisties a bit harder than usual. With Progressive(who I insured my 250 with), I was getting quotes of $1500/yr premium on used supersports. Honestly, I am a college student so that alone was enough to scare me off. But, I stumbled upon Rider Insurance, and recieved similar quotes for japanese bikes, but purely out of boredom, I entered a Daytona 675, my dream bike, and received a quote of only $480/yr with 50/100/50 + UIM coverage. That's barely more than what I paid for my first year with the 250 with progressive!

The idea of getting a Daytona was still a bit of a pipe dream for me, but the day before I was to meet Mike to sell my 250, I saw a CL ad for this bike, it was local and was listed at $5800, which was a bit out of my price range. I rode over to meet up with him and made an offer of $5300 and he accepted. It only has a little over 4k miles and is in very good shape. The tires could probably use replacement some time next year but have plenty of life, at least for the rest of this season and the only fault I could find was the chain was a little rusty. The previous owner installed a full Jardine exhaust, which sounds incredible, frame sliders, a double bubble, and a seat cowl. However, the PO kept all of the original parts and will be including a rear stand as well.

It all happened so fast, but I couldn't be happier. Now I just have to wait a few more days for the lien release to get mailed to me so I can go register it and transfer the tag from the Ninja over to the Triumph. Until then, I need to mock up a tag light, reinstall the stock reflectors, and scrub that damn chain and it should be good for the state inspection.

So far, I've taken it for a ride around the backroads near my house and I am absolutely floored. It is so incredible. It's funny, I noticed I was being very timid and over concentrating and it seemed very awkward to ride, but once I just cleared my mind and started riding it like I actually know what I'm doing, everything just comes into place and feels right. Already I can comment on how much more stable it feels mid-corner, it just sticks, and the power, holy hell, it just pulls, way more than I'll ever need, so much so that I really need to watch my speed....

I'll be sure to update with some more pictures and further comments on my new bike as soon as I can

Oh yes it does. To me, the Arrow sounds rather similar to the Jardine, with the Jardine having a bit more low end and pop/gurgle on deceleration which I really really like. Once I get it registered, am a little more comfortable on it, and devise a better way to record audio, I will most certainly record a video.

After a good wash

Note: those chicken strips need to go....

I went to my local dealer a few weeks ago to see what they could do for me on a '12 Daytona or Street Triple R (a very very close second choice), now I know about dealer fees, delivery, taxes, etc but I'm still trying to figure out how for the Daytona it was priced at $9,500 (2012 model rebate), with a $4500 down payment, and I still would've had to finance $8200... I can understand maybe $2000 in dealer BS, but $3200?! where the hell is all that padding coming in?

Very nice bike dude. Inspired me to do a bit of research on it. Wish I knew more about engines so I could understand how a 3 cylinder has more power than a 4 cylinder...

Definitely!

Update: finally transferred the title over and got a set of temp tags, so I can legally ride it now! Just to get an inspection and I'll be good to go. Also my Helibars came in last night and hopefully my tank grips will come in today. I spent about two hours on it yesterday and did my usual 30 mile commute to work this morning, I know it'll get better but I feel crippled this morning hahah

I don't blame you, I've heard that those are pretty aggressive compared to other 600's. I've never sat on/ridden one though, so I really have no point of reference.

Still, wimp

It's weird, it's more comfortable for me than the R6 and ZX6R I rode and I think part of that is the higher seat height than the japanese bikes, I feel like I'm less folded up, but still, it's quiet a reach forward for the bars and the seat requires you to sit back a ways, but that's just me.

Very nice! Don't forget to set the sag appropriately for your weight and riding style. My daytona went from amazing in the corners to damn near perfect when I had the suspension adjusted. Also, tank bags are nice to lay down on if you're going for a loooong trip.

Pic related. Woke up at 4 am one day and decided to make the trip to Front Royal to go down skyline all the way to 64 on a whim.

Very nice!

That is definitely a must in the near future as the stock suspension settings are rather stiff for my weight. I weigh about 170 in full gear, so I'm not terribly far off, but still it needs some adjustment. I definitely need a tank bag in the near future as I don't even have enough room in the tail for my glasses! Also,I see yours has a different seat. Saddlemen?

I installed the Helibars and my tank pads a few days ago and they make a world of difference.

Yup, a saddlemen. It's a bit firmer and heavier than the stock seat, but it feels much nicer on longer trips since it doesn't really have any pressure points to it. Btw, I notice you have a seat cowl on yours, did you get the passenger seat with the bike too? I've got a cycleguys fastpack over my pillion and it's super convenient for bringing stuff along when I don't feel like dragging the tank bag out.

Also, the daytona looks damn fine in black.

The stock seat isn't giving me much trouble, but I may consider swapping the seat. I didn't like my ninja's seat at first either but grew used to it so I figure the same will happen.

Yeah, the PO gave me the stock passenger seat with the bike but it has a few small tears in it and honestly, I don't have any real plans to give anyone a ride, it may go on once so I can give my girlfriend a ride around the neighborhood, but not much else. I'm not a big fan of two up riding, especially on sport bikes.

I've been looking at the Icon backpack/tank bag, that might be nice especially for commuting to class, the backpack+books+laptop gets mighty heavy, plus it'll be nice to not have to take my EZ pass out of my pocket every time I go to work through the tunnel.

and thank you, good sir! I have to say, the red really suits the Daytona, if I had a choice, I probably would've went with red, with black as a close second

From my ride this evening:

Yeah, on my ninja, at first it had the strips on the windscreen, then later when I swapped to a DB, I put them on my tank, I'd like to not have to do that to the Triumph as I find it to be a little ugly looking though. Also, that windscreen has quite a small radius so I dont know if it would work for this one.

If you ever do decide to swap out the seat, the Triumph gel seat might be worth looking at. It's not nearly as pricey as a corbin or saddlemen and it looks really good while adding a bit more comfort. I agree with you on giving rides... especially with this bike. Your passenger sits up so much higher than you and it creates a fair bit of instability when they decide to move around on you at all.

Also, here's one of my better pics. These bikes are very camera friendly. Not one bad angle for a photo imo.
