May all truckers go to Hell!!!

I really need to get a camera setup on bike. Just had a Semi push me all the way to the curb on an on ramp to freeway. I had to get half off bike and almost just ditch bike on the ground to avoid being smeared against barrier. Bastard didn't look or even signal that he was coming over. Tried to get his plate but was too worked up to memorize anything at the time. Needless to say the piece of **** was let known that he almost killed me. Unleash the ginger power!!!!

Does your on ramp merge, were you in the BIG blind spots that big trucks have?

Glad to hear your ok.
Most truckers I have seen are very carefull around other drivers because driving is there livelihood. I know one truck driver in particular that would never intentionally do something like that.

No merge, Lane just dumps you onto freeway. I was behind one Semi, truck that almost hit me came over from lane that continues onto feeder. When he started coming into my lane I was about at the point where his trailer hooks up with the cab. Nothing I was doing was wrong, He just didn't check his mirrors. He would have seen me from where I was at. I was also at the far left of the lane, and of course my damn horn isn't working right now so I had to to just break as hard as possible and scoot up next to the curb, hoping he would not come over that far to the curb

Sucks balls! Not a good way to start off the week...

Just glad you didn't get smooshed & smeared all over the barrier!

Anything we can learn from this? (Aside from keeping some handiwipes on hand to clean up the undies)

This is why I asked my questions in my above post. All big truck drivers are required to take in depth tests to assure they know what they are doing and are enforced to keep doing those things to keep their job and license.

OP might want to do a mental backtrack of everything THEY were doing while watching the truck instead of protecting themselves before something happened. If you're going to pass a truck make sure you do it QUICKLY and on the outside of the lane away from them.

This picture might help you.

Looks like I was except that He came up beside me first. when I first got on the ramp and behind the other semi, there was no one else to my right. He came up beside me in lane that continues straight then once he got to where I was in his blind spot he started to come over. How he didn't see me as he was coming up behind and to the right of me I do not know. He was passing me, not the other way around

Yeah I'm not sure about that part either without actually being there. It's good to memorize those blind spots though, truckers are our friends more often than our enemies on the roads if you respect them.

I normally try to avoid them at all costs, but it almost seemed like this guy was aiming for me. There are a rediculous amount of refineries down here where I am at and the amount of truckers on the road is quadruple that of anywhere else if not more.

Could you seen him in his mirrors? That's a big clue if he can see you.

My rule of thumb anywhere near big rigs (side from get the heck away from them as soon as possible) is to closely watch everything about them. The mirrors, the indicator lights, lane position. And while yes I do believe they do everything they can to drive safe and cautiously (it is their job after all) I know I am microscopic compared to them and take it upon myself to protect me. Normal cagers are just generally clueless, but big rig drivers have a genuine reason why they may not see you.

I don't remember if I could see him, I was too busy looking down at my tires scraping the curb and his trailer getting closer and closer. I can understand the problem had I come up beside him on his left and passed him, but he was the one that came up behind me and passed me on the right. Don't know if he was too busy looking at signs and saw that he needed to get on freeway there or what

You might have genuinely found that one angry trucker out of the pack that day, which is entirely possible. I think me and most other users just wanted to make sure you were aware of your position and how careful truck drivers are as well if that wasn't the case. The good news is YOU noticed what was happening before it was too late.

Sorry, as I was posting I got distracted by something else so missed the post of him passing you first.

In that case, um, yeah, don't know what to say aside from really glad you caught it, reacted, and made it through,

NEVER EVER EVER. doing this means you are giving up every bit of control over the situation you could ever hope to have. you are gauranteeing a crash and probably getting run over by a semi truck in this situation.

NEVER EVER.

Just felt that if absolutely necessary I could ditch bike and jump on other side of the barrier, already had my right knee up on the seat

You have the most control over the situation by staying on the bike until it hits the ground. Or at least that's what everyone always says. Which I think is true, You can stop a lot quicker with tires and brakes than you will rolling and sliding. Most people go into a panic mode which makes them focus on what's happening rather than what they can do and end up dropping or dumping the bike as a last resort method because they think that's all they can do since they wasted their time to do anything else.

Amen brother. I have a huge respect for truckers and what they do to make sure our food and commodities get delivered to us.
I always give truckers plenty of room and stay out of their blind spots. I try to stay well behind or in front of them and pass very quickly to avoid their blind spots.

I believe that you did the correct thing, Lance.

Better speed up than being next to one of those for more than a couple of seconds: could be a tire, a road debris or what just happened to you.

It is great that you didn't get hurt !!!

Similar thing happened to me while driving a work van several tears ago, .....only that the trucker wedged my van against the wall............ sparks everywhere !!!
