Snorkel Removal
Hello everyone!
I am back with yet another question!! I hope I don't annoy everyone.. I am just trying to learn! Anyway! This time I'm asking about snorkel removal. I've seen people do it. Does the extra air intake have any added advantages? Would removing it require a power commander? Thanks!

IMO, makes minimal difference to anything except for induction noise.
Removing it can't hurt tho |

People take it out to increase the air in the fuel to air ratio. So basically it is done to get "better" performance. If your bike is running fine you probably don't need to do it. It's easy to take out and put back in though so you could take it out, see how the bike runs and put it back in if it has a negative or no effect.
A power commander is for FI systems. The 250r's in the USA have carbs. |

Yes, but only when done in conjunction with shimming the needles
DIY hint: Read this before shimming the carb needles. Really. DIY: Shimming the carb needles DIY: Shimming the Carb Needles... Is it for You? DIY: Removing the Snorkel No power commander required. |

It makes a tremendous difference if you jet accordingly, especially in the upper RPM range. I can feel a real seat of the pants difference on my track bike. When I run CCS I can run without it and when I run WERA it has to be in. The pull in the upper range is much more powerful without the snorkel!!

Thanks for the help guys!
I'm probably just going to leave it in, seeing as I don't really need to remove it, especially since I am not shimming or rejetting.

If you remove it, your finger will smell funny for 3 days.

I stick it in and pull it out on a regular basis...haven't smelled anything unusual?
