Hello say we, from across the sea!
Howdy folks, it sure is good to be here!
So, I'm James, and as you can guess from my name, I'm a brit, proud and true, a tea-drinking, rugby-playing flag-waving maniac. I'm also an enthusiastic biker, and even though I've only been riding for a month, I'm obsessed with everything there is to do with bikes and biking. I mean, I've just got a brand new 50cc roadster and I'm looking at getting a baby ninja next year, modding it into a credible racer and joining the 250cc Junior GP next summer! I must be mad... But anyway, hey to you all and look forward to answering every question under the sun for the next few years...

Thanks for the welcomes guys =)
And something that may interest a few of you is that I am a sponsored officer in Her Majesty's British Army, and a Cadet Corporal in our version of ROTC. Getting £1500 a year for my education on the proviso that I take my place in the Army when I leave university. And every penny is currently in the Pay-for-all-my-bike-debts fund. All good!

Hey James! Welcome to the board. I've really wanted to get into track racing (and may check out a few local to me this summer), but it doesn't seem like I've got the time .... or the approval of my wife to do so! Good luck in your endeavor, and as Chris said keep us posted!!

Yeah, I'm sure the bike is a 50cc, but it's a powerful little beast for such a small engine. 65mph flat out when it's de-restricted (which it will be when I'm 17, as a stop gap before I get my ninja). Looks pwetty too.
And here's the proof

Gorgeous bike, I kinda want to downgrade now...
Great to have you here. Where are you racing? Isle of Mann? |

Haha, don't downgrade, it may look nice but it's pants compared to the Ninjette. Although Derbi do do a 125cc version of the GPR50 which looks identical...
And hell no am I riding on the Isle of Mann TT. That's scary stuff there. I'll be racing at Brands Hatch and Bedford Autodrome mainly, possibly going further north if I'm good enough for the nationals. I currently practice racing at Brands Hatch on my friend's Yamaha YZF125 under my his dad, who happens to be a pro racer, so I've already got my knee down a few times, but my GPR is a little underpowered to practice on roads. This is all conditional on me getting sponsorship to race though. I'd need masses of cash to be able to put together a race-class Ninjette, especially in the UK where you're not allowed to ride race bikes on the road. I'd need two bikes, in effect. One road, one race. Add to that race-level leathers, protectors, helmets, boots and insurance and you're over £6000 in the red...

I had to clean it today, but I'll take some pictures of it tomorrow when I go for a ride. Anything specific you want to see, or is it just general bike Pr0n?

Ok. Not specifically, no. The front, sides, and back I guess at the least.
Don't mind if you add some nice glamor shots either. |

Thats pretty bullcrap that you aren't allowed to ride a 'race' bike on the road, can't just you swap the plastics out and then you'll have a race bike looking like a road bike. No one will know ... hopefully!
Also, I'm eagerly looking forward to them bike pictures!

Well it's all to do with the power output of the bike. As a 17 year-old I'm allowed any bike with a power output no higher than 33bhp or 25Kw. The Ninjette runs at 24Kw or around 30/31bhp, meaning that any major modifications would power it up way higher than I'm allowed. According to some of my research, the modifications I want would boost the power output up to around 45/50bhp, way higher than I'm allowed. Thus, I'd have to own two seperate bikes
In other news, got my pictures taken today. I've got more if you want them, although I don't see why you would really... (All links are for high-res images. They are huge, will probably take some time to load.) Picture One Picture Two Picture Three Picture Four Picture Five Picture Six Picture Seven Picture Eight (A bit of a size comparison with my Dad's Honda Transalp)

doubt you'll get that much power out of a 250R. Does anyone check to see what the current power is after mods? Isn't it rated on the output of the bike at time of sale?

You'd be hard pressed to get 45-50bhp out of one. Looks like the magic number is going to be around 38bhp. Not trying to say you are wrong or anything, just trying to stick my big mouth where it doesn't belong.

There aren't any long term tests that I'm aware of, but done correctly it'll be every bit as reliable as a stock bike. It also should last as long. The rev's aren't really increased and the bore isn't expanded. All of the rotating parts stay on the same plane and none of the geometry changes. The power comes from flow, which is just porting and polishing the head. You can also make the valves bigger, but in the process they are generally lightened to stock, or lighter specifications. Less weight to throw around means less wear.

But surely, for a pure racing bike, you're not too concerned about long-term reliability as you can replace parts easily if you're part of a pro or semi-pro team. What you want is top-level performance.
However, reliability does come into play if it can't get round a track three times without an engine rebuild.

this is still all speculation. until the engine is built, run and dyno graphs recorded, it ain't so. I can show you dynos of a 250 putting out about 30HP. Anyone able to show one to prove more is welcomed to post.
