New MSF!
So they changed some of the exercises for the BRC, and the entire skills test is different!
Has this been discussed before? If so, sorry (I'm not on here much) I only just found out because I started my Range Aide job last weekend |

I don't think have. What state? I believe there are differences in some states like California.

I did some looking around and the only thing I could find was articles like this
http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/2014/0...se-curriculum/ It seems the curriculum was updated in 2014 and implemented from there. MSF riding ranges had to be changed and all MSF coaches had to go through re-certification on the new material. |

I took the course in May 2016 and it was still the "old" one. It was updated sometime in the last 2 months. I googled it as well and couldn't find anything on it. Maybe IL was updated a couple years late??
But the test has 5 parts now: Weaving in and out of cones Right 90 degree turn and u-turn in box Emergency stops Swerving Big u-turn (white lines) No more S/8 turn in box, no more measuring distance in emergency stop (it's timed now). The only thing that's the same is the swerving and the wide uturn. The rules are more strict. Does that sound familiar to you guys? Guess we're behind..?! I'm so glad I took the old test /curriculum EDIT: I just found videos from the state of Washington showing the "new" MSF 5-part skills test and they were uploaded 3 years ago! So I guess we are just behind Last futzed with by motodancer; July 24th, 2016 at 01:24 PM. |

No more figure 8 in the box seems like a big loss.
For me, and others in my class, the figure 8 was a good indication that the bike can turn a lot sharper than a novice rider thinks. It was a good basis for practicing tight turns. The U turn might accomplish 90% of it, but the transition and bike placement for the backside of the 8 were important. |

For the road test, I remember practicing figure 8s on my H2 (triple) the hard way, across the residential street I lived on, until it was easy. Later I learned that not all bikes allow the front wheel to be turned sharply enough to do that.
I talked to a woman this spring who told me about taking the test on some sport bike that would absolutely not turn sharp enough to pass the skills test U-turn. After failing once, she asked if it mattered how she made the U-turn and was told no, just do it. So she got up some speed, locked the rear wheel, and spun the bike around. She said she passed with some points deducted for that maneuver. |

i just completed the msf course in Florida 2 weeks ago. The instructor said we were the last class with the old test material. It did indeed change.
