KTM 390 Duke
It's official. The small displacement category keeps getting more interesting. Unveiled at the EICMA show, the 390 is expected to hit the US next year. It gets premium parts like Bosch ABS brakes, WP suspension, and Brembo brakes . Downside is that on KTM EU website, it also lists premium fuel.

With aftermarket parts, these are going to look sick. Leave the bars for the sumo feel, get clipons for the sport feel. That rear fender has gots to go though... wtf hahahahahha

Very nice little bike, hopefully they don't kill it with a high price. I was very close to picking up a KTM. They have very good fit/finish and come with some of the best components on the market. Brembo everything, stainless lines, Marchesini wheels, & great suspensions.
Here's the big brother to that....they are bringing back the Super Duke R in 1290cc......the sound is amazing. I would trade my CB1000R for that in a heart beat.

any word on them bringing the 690 duke back? the 390 is nice and all, but I think the 690 might be a bike that I can settle on and never replace, I feel like the 390 might be a bit too small. my main reason for going larger is to get something that can handle some highway miles a bit better than the ninjette, at that light weight, I'm not sure the 390 duke is the answer...

Duke 390 will definitely be my next bike. I originally wanted a small Duke but obviously couldn't get one. I'll likely keep at least one Ninja 250 in my stable, it's too fun to get rid of!

Given that british low grade fuel is of a higher octane than american premium fuel I can imagine they will need to mod timing or whatever to make it suitable, most KTMs require high oftane fuels, part of their "ready to race" nonsense, i almost brought the 200 duke as it's a lot cheaper than the ninja 250 here, but it felt smaller and cheap.

Visor Down says that the UK price for the 390 will be 4,495 pounds. (roughly $7,100 US). What does the Ninja 300 sell for in the UK? I think if it were offered in the US at $5K, it would take a huge chunk of the market. At $10K, enthusiasts would still rave about it, but nobody would actually buy it. In the $7k to $8k range, it gets a little dicey for me. Soon enough, people are going to be able to get Ninja 300's for $5.5k OTD almost everywhere, and closer to $5K OTD in some places. Would that same buyer be willing to pay $2k - $3k more?

From the UK reviews I've seen, the Ninja 300 sells in the UK for £4,799 (£5,199 with ABS). Pricing the 390 Duke at £4,495 makes it a very competitive proposition. If KTM brings it to North America with a similar pricing strategy, I think it can be serious player here.

I just googled Kawasaki Ninja 300 UK price and found this site
Says 4,799 pounds so about $7,600. If that's accurate then maybe there is hope that the KTM 390 price in the USA will be close to the 300. |

Hmm so if the KTM 390 price that Alex posted is sans VAT tax than it'll be about $1000 more than the Ninja 300. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

I don't think KTM would bothering bringing the bike over if they sell it for 2 or 3 grand more than the ninja. Nobody in their right mind would buy it. For that kinda money you are getting close to the 650cc bikes and left over 600 SS. Just wouldn't make sense.
I bet it will be priced between the Ninja 300 and Honda 500 bikes if it makes it's way to the US. |

I'm sure it'll be cheaper than the ninja 300 in india, as it's going to be manufactured here. The duke 200 is already less than half he price of the ninja 250 here...
