This is why we can't have nice things.

Yea. That brand new Ducati I bought like two months ago, it's not so new. I went to Laguna seca for a track day today. I low sided nicely right after the apex of turn 3. A great way to make 11k disappear.

My leathers are all torn when the bike fell on me. I have rash on my ass cheek and my elbow. Of course plenty of bruising.

I took most of the brunt. But the body work is crazy expensive and the tank is plastic. I wonder if insurance will try and fix it.

Youch. Glad you're OK. You broke the most important rule; you're only supposed to go fast enough to pose on that sexy machinery! If you're actually planning on going fast enough to crash it, you need a cheap trackbike you can kick over in the pits without a care in the world (see @alex.s ).

The material on the top of the forearm that's flexible. All of that shredded down through my under armour

The gear did it's job. I didn't break any bones and I started doing flips when I hit the sand.

Which that sand stuff sucks and gets everywhere. I'm still sneezing it up. Imagine going backwards into a sandbox at 60 mph.

In all honesty. Because I thought I had enough self control to not go super crazy. I never planned on crashing it.

Here is what happened. I got invited to this event because my friend broke his hand and couldn't go. It was with Pacific track time. They often have racers in their track days and so everyone is pretty fast.

I rode in B group and the first session I was blowing by people. After I got comfortable I was getting the rear loose on a couple corner entries and carrying decent corner speed. It really boosted my confidence and hit my ego. I was by far the fastest guy in the group. So with all that going on I was just full of pure testorone and I was going pretty huge right out of the gate. I was dragging knee in turn 3 and I felt like I was going to slow for the corner. I poured on the gas thinking since I'm going slow I can be more liberal with the throttle. Now that my head is clearer I know I tucked the front but I'm wondering if the rear started to give way too. I low sided without any kind of warning right after the apex.

I'm getting cozy with the 848. It's great on the brakes, it feels nice and stable on its side, and it's pretty quick in stock form that if I started rolling on the throttle before the guy in front of me it didn't matter if it was a 1000 or 600 i would be able to drag race them and show a wheel and stuff him. That's what my problem was today. I was being very unlike myself and being hyper aggressive.

State Farm. They already have an adjuster coming to check it out. As long as it wasn't a timed event they cover it. Then I take it back to the place I bought it from and they fix it.

I don't have gap insurance but I got a screaming deal on the bike. I paid 11 for it and it normally is 13. I put a lot down so I don't really owe that much. I just have to wait and see if they will total it or not.

Lesson learned; check ego at the door, stay calm and cool and collected whilst flowing through the turns.

Keep your head straight and don't get frantic.

I'm glad this happened in a safe environment and not somewhere else. I think a spec of rash on your buns and your elbow is a heck of a lot better than sliding into oncoming traffic. keep your head up, you'll be fine.

Ouch! You got some balls taking a bike like that to the track... I'm guessing for the price of new fairings you could have bought a cheap track bike.

Now you have a Ducati track bike and you can buy a BMW HP4 for the street.

P.S. the rear tire is always supposed to step out (in a controlled manner).

**** buzz dude, but at least it looks to be mostly cosmetic.

See if you can keep the rashed up side panels for track use...

Granted when I saw the title on the front page I thought it had been stolen, so it could be worse...

Hate to hear you went down, and see such a pretty Duc scratched up. Glad your ok. I can tell you that honestly is one of the reasons I have "inexpensive/old/whatever" track bikes. If I wad it up bad enough I just walk away from it and am out $2000 or so.

I give credit to the guys who can take their $25K superbikes (pani S/R, HP4, whatever) to the track and not fear wadding it up. I could never do it; not at least on my salary lol.

If think they can afford to take those bikes to the track and not be on a verge of a nervous breakdown if they go down... Ahhhh the joy of having way too much money...

And sorry for your unplanned spill... I'm sure if you knew you were to crash, you would have done thing differently... héhéhéhéhéhéhéhé...

Beautifully put, chone!

It still feels strange to me that motorcycles can be worth thousands of pounds and it's so easy to for them to fall on their side and smash to pieces. When expensive car owners pull up to their garage, they don't have to worry about a momentary lapse in concentration resulting in their car tipping over. Bastards!

... hmm... maybe some do.
