New paint job ... sort of
Actually, no my bike was vandalized, as well as my roommates Kat 600 and 14 other cars. I was able to remove a lot with Goo Gone, but couldn't get it all around the bar grips and all the wires. Any suggestions there? The Goo Gone has seem to done a number to the plastic around the gauges as well as the clear plastic. Does anyone know if that's a separate part?

Ugh. It reminds me of that pulp fiction quote, where they are talking about never messing with another man's vehicle. Paraphrasing, I think they agreed it should be a capital offense.

Grrr that makes me angry. Hate to see stuff vandalized by some bored little punk kids. Considering the number of vehicles vandalized, I'd think you have a pretty good chance of them getting caught. The cops might write off one vandalism as not worth the resources, but 16 victims should be more than enough to pursue the case.
Kind of similar situation over in this thread. A bike was stolen and poorly repainted black with a couple coats from a rattle can. Apparently a pressure washer was fairly effective on that and didn't damage the underlying paint. |

I don't have full insurance so its all on me. Here is what it looks like after 3 hrs of elbow grease:
Here you can see what the Goo Gone has done to the plastic, It took off the label for the high beam, but not the turn signal. I need new plastics: |

The clear plastics can be polished out. The custome windshield guys sell the polish. GooGone kinda pits the plastic ...yeah, ask me how i know,,,,for whatever is left I'd try a small pressure washer with the flat nozzel...ever so carefully. Really, I think you did a really good job cleaning it up.

For your plastic gauge surround and the other flat black pieces you could get VHT plastic paint to make them look fresh again. I've used it on car interior plastic and it works good. Just need to make sure it's clean before you spray it. Turns out like a low gloss finish. Might be worth a try before spending money on new parts.

Dupli-color has a charcoal spray can with metal flake in it that almost exactly matches the triple-tree and bars.
Also...for the fairings....use WD-40 and lots of elbow grease. It will probably remove most of it. Wash it down real good afterwards. If you still cant get it all off, you can try a graffiti remover like this... http://www.ndclean.com/graffiti.html |

Thanks everyone. This is one of those freak things, My neighbor who has been there for 31 years said that nothing like this has ever happened. So I am not too concerned that this will happen again. I think I am just going to order a new surround, its $50 from the dealer.
Lesson: Spray paint comes off a waxed bike a lot easier than a non waxed bike. My roommates Kat hadn't been waxed in a long time and it was much harder to get clean. Also all the grooves on his air cooled engine make it a HUGE PITA to clean. |

I wouldve spent those 3 hours looking for kids with a white finger tip.
Sorry that happened. It is unbelievable what some people will do for kicks. I'm guessing there might be some unspoken remorse in the group. Maybe post up signs for a reward leading to info? |

These kids haven't learned yet, but someday they will when they're pulling this s^%t again and a big, burly, pissed off drunk steps out of a bar to find a few snot-nosed a-holes messing with his car.

On any smooth surfaces you can't get it off of, try a clay bar. It should come right off and it's super safe on your paint. Don't forget to lubricate it properly with a proper surfactant.

wow... completely messed up. Have you considered painting over it? Might work for some of the hard to get places. Bolts are easy to paint over. Might be your chance to try something cool.
Still though... sometimes I wish I had a knight rider bike... it'd solve all issues. |

that really sucks...it's just so stupid and pointless...we're bored, oh i know, let's go f@#% w/ people's s#!@...i have recommended this site before, they just have everything...cleaners, plastic polish, pads and attachments you can use on your drill...they even sell sample sizes, and you get to pick a sample or two with each order, if you don't want to commit to large bottles of everything...it would be a lot cheaper than ordering new parts....and you can keep using them to keep your bike pretty! http://www.autogeek.net/index.html

That sucks ****. At least it was just paint, and not broken mirrors or scratches.
I always cover my bike with a plain black cover, even when at work, for exactly that reason.
