Spool Install Question

I was trying to install the rear spools on my bike that came with my shogun kit but I think the right side may be screwed (no pun intended). On the left, the bolt that holds the spool to the swing arm went through no problem. On the right, it only gets maybe 1/4 of the way through before it starts getting really hard to tighten and then almost impossible. I'm thinking maybe the threading inside is stripped. Is there any hope for fixing this? Or am I going to have to pass on the spools?

The tapped hole may not be tapped all the way. Other people have ran into this. Pickup a tap the right size (M10 I believe) and try tapping through the hole.

Does that mean it might not be grooved all the way through? It looks like it just from looking inside but could be wrong. Guessing I'd need drill for that?

The put the paint or powder coat and it makes the hole smaller.

It might be problems with the threads, but it the spools might also have the wrong thread pitch. More info in this thread:

I had the same problem with the spools that came with my T-Rex rear stand. There was no way they would screw in more than a third of the way. I ended up buying spools from a different manufacturer and they screwed right in with no problem. Not sure what the problem was although some people insisted it was paint built up in the threads.

Yup - in that case it probably was that difference in thread pitch (1.5 bad, 1.25 good)

Hmmm...just went out there and tried to screw them in with my fingers and neither side would go in more than a few turns. Kinda makes me think it could be the TPI that was mentioned in the other thread. Does that mean I'll have to buy a new set of spools or is it possible to get just the bolts?

That actually sound exactly like my problem. I'm guessing that the bolts won't be too pricey so I'm gonna run to home depot now and try to get 1 or 2 others to test.

Just got back from home depot with a 1.5 and no luck. The 1.25 ones I have already go in more than that but not by much. Is the tap that was referenced above for clearing out paint? or resetting the threading?

Was paint in virgin holes for me. Took me 30 mins to screw in 2 spools. Slowly in and then then back back out a little at a time, cleaning it off as you go... That's how she likes it. Err.... will get the job done. hahahahah

A little persistance and determination and this worked. I guess it was just paint after all. Just glad I finally have rear spools. Now I can put my rear stand to use and get to work on those frame sliders.
