Ninja 250 on a motorcycle carrier using a 2" hitch receiver

Any advice on transporting a Ninja 250 using any of the following?

Cycle Gear - TRACKSIDE Motorcycle Carrier

discountramps.com - black widow motorcycle carrier

BestChoiceProducts SKY1375 - multiple retailers

Harbor Freight - 400 lb receiver mount motorcycle carrier

This would be for a Honda CRV with a Curt 2" receiver. The tongue weight limit is 350 pounds, so I would be pushing it with a Ninja 250 on the back.

There are better options, but I just listed the cheapest 4. I'm leaning toward paying a little more for the one from discountramps.com. I'm also leaning toward getting steel and staying away from alumninum.

adding 400+ pounds that far back will affect handling. I would just comb craigslist in your area looking for a cheap motorcycle trailer.

I know. That's the obvious answer. But I really hate dealing with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. A cheap trailer isn't so cheap once I get it titled, inspected, insured, and then registered every 2 years. Just the title fee is $100.

A lady friend of mine uses one on the back of her jeep. Get steel!!!! They work just fine as long as you don't drive like a fool.

I don't have a ramp, but would lean toward aluminum because it's less likely to corrode than steel. If it's built from the correct weight aluminum, it can be as strong or stronger than steel.

Vehicle tongue weight limit = 350 lbs

Bike weight + carrier weight >350 lbs

Am I missing something here?

I can easily see going over a nasty pothole and giving the thing a good jolt that ends....

.... poorly.......

Way too much weight for the back of a CRV.

I like the idea, it seems pretty cool, then again I have a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer LT.

Living in Kentucky and having less strict DMV & DOT laws I would lean towards a trailer, but then again I could use it for other things as well, more versatile.

I ran across these trailers kinda caught my eye.

Ahhh, I couldn't find the previous thread using the forum search, but it's now appearing below.

Now I'm leaning against putting a Ninja 250 on a rear hitch. I'm better off renting a motorcycle trailer from U-Haul for that one off occasion. Doesn't appear to be an issue where I live.

But I'll probably get a steel carrier in the near future. I'm seriously considering doing more track days next year and figure that I start racing on a mini motard in the stock 100 class at Sandy Hook. Shouldn't be too much of a weight issue for a CRV.
