Undertail exhaust looks cool, but it ads a bunch of piping (weight) up high that gets hot (even more so in summer). The low, stubby, Buell-like muffler has some advantages.

I believe that's a fake. It's been out a few months now. I'm not believing anything until Yamaha releases it themselves.

That's not a concept it's an artist mock-up of what the bike might look like... aka random artists bs.

Thank god because it's absolutely hideous.

so, yamaha is making the r1 their race face instead of the r6? I guess this frees up room for an r675 triple...mmmmmm r675 triple, like a triumph daytona 675r except cheaper and better (arguably)

more on point, an alleged 200hp? I feel bad for the squids who think "oh my civic has 200hp, I can totally control it"

another point, the picture doesn't look legit but if they're really going for a short exhaust that's awesome. I've always loved undertail exhausts for the aesthetics but over time the really short stubby exhausts have grown on me. I could easily live with either.

Like you and Justin, I think the underseat exhaust looks good, too. But the short, stubbies make more technical sense.

a large reason why they've grown on me. I can't get behind the long side exhausts though. The ones that the ninjettes come with stock are an example of this and anything longer is just worse. When I switch the exhaust system on my 300 in a year or two I'll be looking for something shorter.

Under tail exhaust is now pretty much (still looks good) a thing of the past for the top performance dogs. They look good but putting that weight down low has many benefits including more weight forward where the stressed front wheel gets weighted more. The picture of the bike is just a artists idea of what it could look like but not the actual bike (says so in the upper right quote) but looks awesome no matter what! 200 hp and traction control will make it a really nice package and I think they are aiming at BMW S1000RR performance! Yamaha has always (my first bikes were Yamahas) made great race replicas and the tradition carries on at an even higher level
