I am now a 300 owner

Everyone, meet my new 300 "Saturn". I may slip and call her another name from time to time and if you get it then congrats, you're a girly nerd (that's a good thing). Give me a bit of time to compose my thoughts, I rode her back to my hotel since I'm not up to riding a brand new bike 300 miles quite yet.

Congratulation. That's a nice bike sometimes I wish mine was black.

Niiiice. You two should share a drink in memory of Hotaru (after you've arrived at your destination for the night, of course).

Congrats, girl.

So this may be a bit haphazard, and I'll update it as I ride the bike more, especially if anything changes.

The first thing you notice is the power band. It's not more power, it's just power being available -- my 250 used to not get going till 4k and then REALLY got going around 9k RPMs. The 300 starts from word go. It's quite nice, actually.

The clutch is super sensitive -- I just barely have to touch it to go from disengaged to fully engaged. I will need to see how this changes once I get Pazzos on board (aside: I may start a thread named something like "Ninja 250 mods that work on the 300" so we can document those things as we find them)

The giant tach is super nice. The digital speedo not so much. There's two reasons for this: the first is that the speed gauge is much lower than the gauges were on my 250; I have to 'look down' much more than I did. Because it's digital it's also harder to get a 'rough' look to know about how fast you're going -- you either can read it or you can't.

The lights on the dash are pretty dim. I hope I can put something brighter in for day riding. The different lights for left and right signals is a nice small touch.

The gas tank is SUPER DUPER nice. Laying on top of this tank is one thousand times better than my 250. Flipside: the seat isn't as nice, I'll have to get a Corbin. The bike is very slightly taller and wider -- this makes the seat discomfort just a bit more noticable to a shortie like me. To 'reverse' up a slope I need to get off and walk the bike instead of being able to do it while riding.

The extra power at the top is quite nice. I noticed I could usually be 1, sometimes 2 gears lower than I would have been on my 250. I also trivially ran with the fastest cars, instead of having to go whole-open throttle. After this I'm pretty sure the desire for a bigger bike for long freeway trips will be gone, we'll see how I feel after going back home to Vegas to know for sure.

The kickstand sucks. It's a new shape, it's more awkward for me to get out and I just don't like it.

Appearance wise I still prefer my 250, but there are a few design elements I care for. I may photoshop my 'dream fairings' at some point :P

That's what I remember off the top of my head. Anyone have any questions? I'll try my best to answer them. Oh! My out-the-door price was under $5400 for what that's worth, but I need to go to Nevada to register so that part of the price is forthcoming.

have you adjusted the preload yet? I believe its on lv2 or even 3, unlike the 250's straight from the dealership. My friend was complaining about that when she got her 300, first thing i did was looked at the preload and fixed that up & it solved everything for her

excellent thought, when I got my 250 the dealer said they'd go and do everything to account for my tiny size that was in spec (e.g. no lowering link) -- I bought this so fast I don't think they had the time. I'll look at this when I have some daylight.

Congrats on the 300! The Corbin definitely makes a huge difference in comfort. I spent probably 5~6 hrs in the saddle last Sat. and my butt wasn't sore at all. I actually get a sore butt faster driving the car now haha.

I thought you were crazy thinking the lights on the dash are dim, but then I remembered that I was running with one working dash bulb in my pre-gen 250 (bought it like that and never changed anything). Anyway, I think you're gonna have fun on the 300

Congrats! It looks sick. My gf is thinking of trading her 250 for a 300 in the next 6 months or so.

I used to worry about the speedometer, but after a while, you'll use the tach to know where your speed is at if necessary. I love having a clock on the gauge cluster now. The turn signal lamps on the dash are a little dim for daylight but you get accustomed to that too. I haven't noted any discomfort with the seat, but I'm 5'9". The 250 would wear on me after a few hours. I can ride the 300 for hours on end without issue. I hated the kickstand at first, but I realized it takes up less floor space in my garage than the 250 did. It's partly from the kickstand and partly from where the mirrors are mounted. Enjoy the new ride!

Btw, there is already a thread about what's interchangeable between the new-gen 250 and the 300.

This one is good. However, the guy who writes it does keep it updated and the link will change when he does. There are quite a few things that are the same.

I've heard my Woodcrafts will work, that sounds like my Pazzos will be the same, and I've heard (but not confirmed) that it would use the same pod filter that the 250 does (does that work? I don't know fuel injector tech that well but I remember the pods matched right up to the carbs).

So, day two.

The bike is now my own. Stickers have been applied

More impressions:
- The tail section is way better organized. I can fit more back there and it's not as big a pain to get the rear seat back on.
- After riding at noon I can say the lights are WAY WAY WAY too dim during the daylight. I couldn't see my turn signal indicator at all and I was specifically looking at it (at a stop in a safe location).
- Still hate the kickstand

Nice. I forgot how ugly those rear fenders are and how ugly those stock cans are on a black bike.
