Road Kill....yeah, I hit it.

First off - so glad I didn't put the bike away for the winter yet. Absolutely beautiful autumn day here in Western PA. Nothing better than riding in the 60F sunshine while yellow and red leaves fall around you as you zoom-a-zip on by.

I guess I should have been paying less attention to the falling leaves and more attention to the road.

That's when the road kill happened. Traveling at 60mph on a nice country road...following perhaps a little to closely to the car in front of me. By the time I saw the dead and decomposing raccoon pass beneath the car in front of me, it was too late. Squish.

Anyone else share this pleasant experience?

On a dark summer night I ran over an already run over raccoon. I rode every corner home as straight as possible as I wasn't sure how slippery those innards are! The next day I looked at the tire and it was all clean and dry.

Nasty. I immediately had this vision of a raccoon rib poking out of the side of the front tire. Pulled over pretty quickly....no bones. Just slime.

Edit to add: @Paulette...under-fairings had some unrecognizable goo which will require further analysis....

The up side is, at least it wasn't mid-corner! Yikes!

Yep, happened to me last year. My 5:30AM commute with the moon in my mirror, the red glow of my dash (I was on my 650), the thick fog on one side of the highway giving it that classic haunted road.Didnt have time to set a path to avoid the roadkil that literally stretched across the lanes. Didnt have time to clean it off when I got to work so during my lunch break it had time to cook on my exhaust. Yeah, made the stop lights in the summer heat real fun. Almost had a side order of tossed cookies with my lunch.

I created roadkill... ninjette vs. squirrel. Squirrel was almost across the road, I slowed down and then it decided to run back the way it came and <THUMP>! Hit it with my front tire.

mate they run ramped around here. went hunting on a friends property with a cricket bat and a golf club and caught 43 in one night.

only bad part was hitting one and being hit in the mouth with some kind of unidentified liquid. worst taste ever

Ran over a freshly squished chipmunk in a sharp turn at about 20mph and the front wheel slide a little.

I have run over many previously dead squirrels and rabbits. I have hit a dog (it still chases me) & a turtle. The turtle shot from my front wheel like a bullet hitting the bumper of an oncoming car. Sorry for the turtle, but had to laugh at that one.
