Night rides in the summer are a definate. You can see if there's ON COMING traffic when your in the twisties. The Ninjette's got some pretty darn good lighting too... a necessity.

Now night rides in the winter... black ice, cold... but NO BUGS is a big plus!

Speaking of lighting, I run my highs all the time. Day and night. I'm just not a fan of the low beam. But is this bright enough to annoy people? I haven't had anyone flash me, but I don't want to be the dick that is blinding everyone.

And yes, I stay off the roads at night when the temp is below freezing!

The day Americade ends Laconia always has a 7 or 8 day bike week, so people usually go from americade to Laconia. They do events at the track, they have demos and vendors and all that, i hear its more of a party week than americade is. Either way id like to go at least once.

PA law When driving at night, use low beams as soon as you see another vehicle approaching in the oncoming lane, as
high beams can “blind” the other driver. Pennsylvania law requires you use low beams whenever you are within
500 feet of an oncoming vehicle and when you are following a vehicle within 300 feet.

I think it would be safer to have a less angry less blinded driver coming at me so I turn my low beams down at night if someone is coming at me. Also if you are following someone there is no need. so then ya you are just being inconsiderate. Daytime run them on high.

Starting from after I crashed my 250, whenever I see a left turn signal on a car in front of me I start flashing my high beams even if I see the driver look strait at me. If I am running on high beams I think that is less effective, so I run on low beams in the day.

Im going to have to consider this... I've got the time... do they let the bikes "on the track"?

I always dim my brights when approaching a car unless I'm on the OUTSIDE of a curve and on the intersate where theres a huge median.

I've don this on occasion. Our Basic Riders Course Instructor warned that sometime people think when you do that your telling them to "go ahead"....

I know that to be true by the way people react. Funny that my MSF instrutor sugested running lows and flashing but with the same warning you got. I am ok with being cut off with room to slow down, I am more worried about people pulling out infront of me when I am 20 feet away and doing 45 mph (ask me why) ATGATT. No one is thinking you want then "go ahead" under that senaerao if they know you are there.

You don't necessarily know that. Have you not seem the amount of stupid drivers who only care about themselves? I find that to be a risky effort for someone to see you..

As for riding with brights on I find that to be annoying, and other motorcyclists even flash there brights if I've accidentally had them on.

This will be more effective overall.

I do that also and I told my MSF instructor so and he discouraged me and the others in my class saying you will be explaining yourself to police.

But I agree that is the more effective strategy subtracting cops.

whats worse?
getting pulled over and explaining yourself, or breaking bones.

that great thing about that technique is it works on a intuitive level that benefits both parties.

it lets them utilize the distance judging skills cagers already have, and allows the rider to remain loose on the bars in case of emergency maneuvers.

Night riding is mixed for me (though lately due to the stupid earth tilt, that's all I can do).

In the summer, i like the solitude and on clear nights seeing the stars just go forever with no cage around me is amazing. But I'm always wary of the blasted black angus cows hanging out on the road soaking up the residual heat. When the full moon is out and you can see the landscape around you under that pale blue feels surreal (and doing that with snow on the ground is otherworldly).

I love riding in the day but night has its joys too. No need to stop rolling simply cause the sun went down.

Well guys, Ksenia has been in the garage since thursday... I'm going absolutely mad! I am having complete withdrawal! I had thought about going on a quick spin yesterday, but the roads were still wet and salty and I wasn't risking going down for a 10 minute ride. And today it was cold enough that I was still finding ice on the roads. So I've been in a slump. Like literally I've been supper edgy and irritable, you can ask Ryan.

I NEED MY BIKE!!

No. **** that ****. I hate the sound of that. I want to move north I like the idea of warm all the time, but there is something about New England attitude that I've grown to love. I don't know that I'll ever move from the North East. There are so many assholes here, I just feel at home.

O? Well then... yeah but then I have to worry about Volcanoes, Hurricanes, rainy seasons, weird tropical killing machines... and the high cost of living.

Only the cost of living...no volcanoes on Oahu, and no real hurricanes (not that NE doesn't have those). Oahu hasn't had a hurricane since 1992 (I believe). Just a rainy season, but that's only from Nov-Febish and it's not all the time. Plenty of time to ride during it. Other than that it's AWESOME!

You know, tropical scary bugs, animals, other creatures that kill you in your sleep. Or when you're just in the garden or out for a walk! I'm not sure exactly what they are, but I'm assuming they exist in Hawaii...

Nah...not really. Well, not around me. Hawaii if full of geckos which keeps the creepy crawlies to a minimum. Trust me. I HATE spiders. I haven't seen too many. Nothing like our last duty station (Ft Riley, KS). There are centipedes here tho. One did sting me 3 times in my bed one night. I didn't sleep in it for a month.

O okay... I'm not too scared of centipedes I don't think. Though I will say, I get stung in bed and the house would be burnt down and I'd be moving

I think this thread shows a need for a chat feature on the forum

Nah That's what my thread is for! I just like updating this because I hope that if someone can filter out all of the off topic conversations, there are some good tips and tricks in here to be used by other new riders.

Though right now... centipedes...

Being a BI data analyst this thread does violate pretty much every code of data integrity I follow, so I suppose that's why it's bugging me

It's a shame to have helpful data that may go unseen because it's hiden within a thread with a non descriptive title, or may appear to be of a different topic from the other posts.

The thread is in danger of becoming an unwieldy behemoth.

Well, if this thread is kept to general chit chat and any questions or insightful comments made into a new thread, that might work.

I think the behemoth is Jiggles Percoset thread.

And, personally, the "topical killing machine" made me think of the Lost smoke monster.
