What Do You Love/Hate More; Rainy or Cold Riding?

Read before voting!!:

If you had the chance to pick.. during your daily ride or commute, or traveling down the same roads you always ride, which one do you enjoy the least?..

Rain:
  • Comfortable outside temp
  • Constant medium downpour (showering)

Cold:
  • Anything below 40F.. Lets say 15F-25F, or whatever weather when you throw on a warm jacket.

Conditions:
  1. You're wearing the same ATTGAT gear you always do, this differs obviously; so post if your gear is warmer than most.
  2. Wind is somewhat tame for both conditions.
  3. You're traveling the same speeds for both conditions which is how fast you're usually comfortable with.
  4. Your preference of day/night riding but that's another whole thread

Vote!

VS.

Looks like so much fun. You can't expect the road surface to be entirely clean though, at least here around the city during the colder months it's covered in everything from chunks of rock salt to dirt and sand.

Where I live, in the winter the weather is either in the low 40s and rainy, or the low 30s and dry. I'd rather commute in the colder dry weather: it's far, far easier to bundle up against the cold than to try to stay dry in the rain.

Cold over rain any day.

The snowbank in that pic is only 20 feet (or so) high. Chinook Pass will open in 2 or 3 weeks: the snow bank will be 30+ feet high. Always fun to be 90+ F in Yakima, then 40 F at the pass 30 miles later.

**** that, anything below 55 is cold in my books. That's when I start getting chilly while I ride and wish I had hand warmers. I don't have adequate gear for cold.

That said, getting caught in the rain is straight miserable, unless you intentionally go out in it. Then it can be kind of relaxing feeling. So I guess I vote rain.

Cold over rain for me as well. At least I can layer up in the cold. The coldest I've ridden was in the high 20s. Only 10 mile rides.

In the rain, I hate having trouble seeing out the face shield....and constantly wiping water off. I tried Rain-X on the face shield. It's better than nothing, but still not that great.

But what worries me most about the rain is the horrible visibility for other drivers. I don't want to get hit.

This is one of the main reasons I would hate to be out with other cars in the rain, and possibly where a blinking brake light / more prominent exhaust could help other people notice me a bit, still, when in my car and it's pouring I have enough of a hard time seeing what's in front of me.

I don't care about either, been caught in the snow and thunderstorms. Riding in the rain feels nice if it's warm summer rain (70+ degrees out or so) but I tend to ride to work where I need to be dry (school I couldn't care less about arriving dry to)

That is what I meant, I said when I'm driving my car when it's pouring I usually have a tough time seeing. Obviously I don't get all the blind spots I do with my bike

I have a low tolerance to cold, my heated gear comes on around 60*, the warm gloves are on around 50*, and my thick layers put on around 40*. So I am well wrapped up with a helmet skirt and handlebar mitts when it gets down to the 20's and can tolerate it for about an hour before my core temp drops too far to be safe.

Not a fun ride at all.

I'll take rain any day over cold. Doesn't bug me.

I didn't mean blind spots, it was more a reference to my car being ****** and having the windshield fog up no matter what I try to do to prevent it when it rains.

this is hard - can't decide. If i had better rain gear I wouldn't mind either but I guess I have to say rain is better. You can spin the tire and haves fun xD when it's cold I'm too frozen to have fun llol

I always have fun when I'm wet.

Nah, there's no need for that. I'll be hopping on a 600 hopefully soon before I go down south for college, but definitely taking a bike down with me if not the ninjette. :]

Ice is the only thing that will keep me off the roads. Snow offers some traction if very little but it is more than ice and will let you get you to your destination.
Winter cold weather riding will get you to learn about throttle control and braking real quick, as the pucker factor increases exponentially as the temperature drops. lol

Would definitely go with rain.

If it is a decent temp outside (bonus if I'm wearing my rain gear) then rain is relaxing and somewhat surreal. If you're smooth, it is somewhat difficult to lose control of a ninjette just due to some rain, given adequate tires, unless you're riding entirely too hard for the conditions.

Having ridden all through the winter barring ice storms, fogging masks, numb fingers and hands, and the general tightness of your muscles really limit how hard you can ride and make it all around miserable. If I had heated gear I might think differently, but even my winter gloves just delay the numbness.

That said, both are preferable to hot and humid!

i hate rain. reduces traction, makes you cold, reduces visibility, etc.

cold is fine. as stated, i love my heated grips, and will always have a set on any motorcycle I own.

Having no real winter in Florida and a lot of rain in the summer, and only a few thousands of miles more to enjoy, I hate nothing.

At least for me, nothing has and nothing could spoil the ultimate joy of riding !!!

For me I would rather ride in cold weather than rainy weather. Both are tolerable with the right gear, not so much without. However getting sopping wet, cold , with reduced vision and traction in the rain is usually worse.
That said, during a long hot weather ride having a sudden rainstorm hit you is refreshing.

I would rather ride in a steady rain than extreme cold or high winds at any temp.

I'm all right in cold weather, but it must be bone dry.

I like to imagine I'm flying 20,000 feet up when riding in the cold.

If I am riding, i can deal with either, but I will not leave my house on the bike just to be uncomfortable. I have a car for that weather. I have the gear for cold, I have the gear for rain, I ride to enjoy it, being cold and or wet is not enjoyable.
