FNG already asking for help
Hello everyone just wanted to introduce myself, name's Hector and I'm from deep south Texas.
I'm definitely looking to start riding sometime next year when I get back from Army basic training and based on some reading I've decided on getting a 250. Just wanted to say that this is a hell of a forum and despite not even having a bike I've found a lot of the information and resources to be very helpful. And while we're here I was wondering if you all could comment on some of the gear I'm looking to get: Helmet: Scorpion Exo-400 Chest: Alpinestars Bionic 2 Pants: Firstgear TPG Escape Pants Boots: Icon Field Armor Boots Gloves: Cortech Scarab R.R. Only concern I have with the gear is how to balance protection with how hot it gets down here. The summer is just ridiculous, as I'm sure most of you that live near the lower latitudes know, so far it has been in the high 90s and low 100s since the end of May. The other seasons aren't much better. In any case, most of my rides would be around 20 minutes tops in not so heavy traffic split almost evenly during early afternoon and evening/night riding. Thanks in advance for any feedback you might give. |

Aloha and welcome, Hector.
If it's hot there, consider some mesh riding gear for now. Later in the year as the temps drop, consider adding to your gear by buying some cold weather (leather or full textile) gear. I would recommend a full boot over those that you've selected. |

I've got a Scorpion helmet and they are great for how much they cost. Sportbiketrackgear.com has them starting at $80. I would also recommend getting the areo skirt to cut down on wind noise. http://sportbiketrackgear2.homestead.com/exo400.html |

Hector!
You've got some nice gear choices there ( ATGATT 4EVER! ) but if it's as hot in Texas as I hear, you may want to consider mesh over leather for the hotter months, and get the leather for the cooler, but since your predicted rides won't be but 20 mins, you should be good to go I don't know a lot about Scorpion helmets, but just make sure it's DOT and Snell approved and that it FITS. |

as far as gear, that is real good protection u got selected there..I've been down to laredo and brownsville, mission and even in 2 nuevo progresso mx. and it is hot as fuk!!! you definitely will need mesh....Or git the icon knee & shin, torso, elbow, and some riding shorts and u should be good...To much gear down there u could pass out wit heat stroke while riding...

Welcome to the forums! As far as gear goes, I can only comment on the helmet and boots.
The Exo-400's a good helmet but if you can afford a bit more I'd fully recommend the 700 series. Not only is it a bit lighter but it's made of better material and I also think it has better aerodynamics - the reason why my neck hurts after long rides with the 400 and not the 700. The boots are great if you don't want full on riding/racing boots. They're sturdy have good ankle, heel and toe support but they're also a bit bulky and not the best for wearing all day. After my dog chewed them up, I ended up getting the Icon Super Duty 3 which are ALOT more comfortable and have more ventilation. So you can look into that as well. |

I have the EX0-700 and like it a lot, but I've also heard good things about the 400. |

Welcome mate, IMO you should buy a proper jacket, albeit Mesh, textile, leather.
