Chain Lube

Hi Folks,
Been riding for the last 5wks & what a blast it has been. This really is a fun little bike & I love it. But,when it comes to maintenance, I know nothing. I'd like to get some input from experienced riders here,as to what chain lube works best for you & how often it is recommended to do it. A link to any DIY videos would be appreciated.

For me, it was an easy decision. Go with the Dupont Teflon lube:

My chain lube of choice too. Be warned if you like a clean undertail area: It is formulated to be self-cleaning by expelling dirt-impregnated globs of itself, which is good for keeping a chain clean, but it is definitely not fling-free.

Yep I like the Dupont teflon multi purpose spray lube. Works great and I also use it on my car bushings and it keeps them quiet. Its good stuff

Whatever you use, don't use the suzuki chain lube. It is the absolute worst crap. I use the dupont teflon stuff but in my quest to find a great chain lube the suzuki one left me the most disappointed.

This is by far the best thing I have ever used. Absolutely no flinging and the chain seems to clean till its time to re-apply. Easy off too with a damp rag of WD-40. Only catch is it is recommended to leave it to cure overnight while other companies claim you can ride in 15 mins. I'll try to take some pics the next time I lube my chain.

In defense of the Dupont stuff... I have yet to try it so I have no personal use experience. It does come highly recommended though.

I've been using PJ1 Blue Label chain lube. seems to be working for me, but sounds like this dupont stuff is where its at. I may have to try that when I run out of what I have.

One of the really cool properties of the Dupont lube: it is resistant to solvents other than the solvent(s) it contains. Basically, it resists being removed without a healthy scrubbing, but will literally drip away if you spray some new lube on it.

But why would you want to clean your chain with new lube?

I don't think there is one. I personally use WD-40 but your owners manual says diesel or kerosene.

I was sent a sample bottle from another site to evaluate of Bean Clean which can be ordered from chaindrain.com. I was very impressed on what a good job this stuff does, can be rinsed off with water, no real mess and easy to use and clean up after as well as environmentally friendly. Someone else should try it and see how good it is. Much better than stinky old kerosene which may be cheap but it messy to use and harder to dispose of than rinsing any spills off the driveway with a hose. Did I say I liked it?

What's the point of a chain lube you can clean off with water? Riding a trailer queen? Dupont Teflon chain lube is the stuff to use. Also comes in a handy squeeze bottle that can hide under the seat.

Kerosene and the grunge brush....or a cut-up paint brush if I don't feel like putting up with the grunge brush.

Seriously...kerosene is obscenely cheap. I'm not gonna waste perfectly good wd-40 on cleaning a chain

Well, I did get me some kerosene from walmart today. Now, if someone can tell me how to use it to clean the chain, since it's not in a spray bottle like WD40, i'd really appreciate it.

Get it on the chain with a small brush or squeeze bottle and let it sit for a few minutes to loosen up the grease on the chain. Then scrub it with a toothbrush and just work your way around the chain. Then do it again. Then wipe it off with a rag and dry it, and lastly put on whatever you want to coat the chain.
