Tachometer on 2011 stopped working
Hey guys I have a 2011 Ninja 250r. I dropped it last weekend on it's left side when I stalled going about 2 mph practicing a tight figure 8 in the parking lot. Going too slow I guess.
It went down pretty slowly but enough to bend gear shift pedal and scratch up my fairings/mirror/turn signals. I was able to bend the pedal back and other than the cosmetic damage, seemed to run fine. I went on a few more rides since then with no problems at all. Now today, after a 3 day rest, I take it out and the Tachometer works for 2 seconds before bottoming out and staying at 0 RPM. I ignored it hoping it'd fix itself during my ride and there were a few times when the gauge jumped up but for the most part, it stayed dead and didn't move at all. Mechanically, the bike seems sound though and everything else looks like it's working, both electrical and mechanical. Any thoughts on what could be wrong? I've been researching but have not had much luck so far. I took it to the shop today but they said it'd be at least a week to even take a look so I just brought it back home. |

I have found that a hammer fixes most problems.
This information can not be reliable for all repairs. Use hammer fix at your own peril.

LOL well the needle was moving fine before. Plus it even jumped a tiny bit once or twice during the ride so I don't think it's stuck. I'm guessing the signal being sent was weak and slowly died....any suggestions on checking the wiring?

Start at the tach and work backwards.

Lol... CC
Check your battery connections first. Loose wires can cause crazy tach issues. Pinched wires around the front sprocket cover also causes this issue.
