Sleeping at the track... genius idea
Just ran across this. A 5.5 x 10 foot tent that uses your existing EZ-up as its frame. Since it's half the size of a 10x10, it leaves enough room under the canopy for your bike, chair, cooler etc.
No poles, and while the front corners are meant to be staked I see no reason why it can't just be tied to the canopy legs. Just unhook when you get up in the morning, bundle it all up and chuck it in your car. End of the day, reverse. Simpler than a regular tent, and way roomy... standing headroom. They also make a 4-person version that sits off to one side of the canopy (which means it could be left set up all day), but it requires stakes and has a pole. Most of the tracks I go to, you're either on pavement or the ground is so hard there's no way you're going to get a stake into it. Best part: This one is on sale right now for $26 (!) at Walmart, with free ship-to-store. At that price, I'm going to take a flyer and see if it'll work. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Tra...Tent/224906920

Keep trying, and maybe from a different device. When I saw it this morning I encountered the same thing. Hit the link at work later in the day and was able to order it.
Even at the full price of $50-something, it's not a bad idea. Available at Amazon. Quality will likely be what you'd expect from Wally World, but whatever.

Yeah, I found it on Amazon. I'm still using an 8' square easy-up. And sleeping in the back of my van works pretty good. But I like the concept. Maybe after I sign with KRT...

I love it. I've been buying them all day. Every time they stock more I buy all the stock. I'm going to sell them at the track and make a killing. Screw sleeping in them, if you put your bike in over night it will be clean and dry in the morning. It's so much better than a bike cover.

I don't have high expectations re quality, but for $26, what the hell. My car's too small to sleep in, and I'm at an age where stuff like standing headroom sure is appreciated. The real test will be how much of a hassle it is to use. I've got low tolerance for gear that's a PITA. I'm thinking that in the morning, I just take my clothes duffel out of the tent, uncork the air bed, unhook the tent, loosely roll the whole thing up and toss it in my car. Next night, unroll it, hook it to the EZ-up and reinflate the air bed. Easy peasy, if it works.

What I like about having it under the canopy is that it doesn't take up extra space in a crowded paddock.

The biggest downside I'm seeing is that I kind of like being able to drop my canopy to half-height overnight if it's raining. But then, if it's wet, I'll probably sleep in the van or pony up for a motel room and shower anyway.

Awesome idea though. Or.... just buy an ez-up with walls and enjoy wind/rain/sun protection AND have a more private area for your cot. Just bring a piece of carpet/rug for your sock feet.

Also.... before you order, check your canopy size.
They come in all kinds of sizes. Small 8x8 8x10 10x10 10x12 Large Make sure this will work with yours without "getting creative". Looks like the wal-mart item is for a 10x10. And for god sake, don't use this on those cheap $49 canopies, they can barely hold themselves up. My guess is your experience with this product will be relative to the quality of your canopy. Good Luck!

The wind ate my last canopy and its replacement is a 12x12. Easy to adapt... a little paracord is all that'll be needed.

Around here... at one track (Thompson) most parking is on asphalt with no dirt in sight into which one might drive tent pegs. One edge of the paddock is like that, but everyone else is on pavement. At another (Palmer) the unpaved areas are hard-packed dirt and sharp stones. Not tent friendly AT ALL and about as hard as concrete under those sharp rocks. Everywhere, taking up more width than your canopy occupies is not welcome... so that deluxe Taj Mahal dual-tent-with-canopy-in-the-middle rig is kind of a non-starter.

To survive the wind flipping canopy upside-down & inside-out, design will need to change to larger diameter round tubing made from chromoly or titanium. Plastic joints will need to be replaced with metal. Even then, I still think wind will be able to break it. I've had my el-cheapo Costco canopy for 2-seasons now and the tubing's bent and I've replaced many rivets at plastic joints with bolts. The fabric's starting to have some holes from repeated stretching and packing. Haven't found anything with significantly better design or materials yet though. I'm eyeing some kevlar sails I've got in storage, those may work better as covering material... |

I have tried good ones and cheap ones. I have anchored one side to my van and the other firmly staked into the ground. I finally gave up. I always sleep at the track. I sleep
In the van. I just bought a cot. Now it will be awesome.

I bought a 7x12 trailer for me and my bikes. Even with one bike there is plenty of room to sleep. I got it for Motorcycle events. Once at my spot I put the bike in a screen room and use the whole trailer for camping. Bed, crapper, kitchen, TV, small refrigerator, AC, with a little Honda generator, all the comforts of home. Well almost I need to rig up a shower with holding tank.

I ordered the thing, but got an email from Wally World overnight canceling the order. Evidently they decided they're out of stock after all.

Uhaul 5x10 box trailers are fairly cheap to rent. $24 a day if you return to the same location. You'll need to supply your own wheel chock and ramp, but those are easy enough to come by. Fits a bike and plenty of gear, and once you've pulled the bike out you can set up a cot or air mattress. Locks up solidly if you decide to grab a motel before/after.
I did the math once and if you buy a new trailer, it'd be something like 50 uses before buying paid for itself compared to renting. Plus with Uhaul, you don't have to store it between uses, maintain or license it. Only real downside is picking up and dropping off.

I have plenty of room when we are home. The trailer becomes an overflow room for bikes before they go into the shop. We have a Class C Motorhome that we park in St. Augustine FL for the winter. We also keep a car in Florida. I use the trailer to bring two bikes south. One Harley and one scooter. Then I bring three bikes home. Motorcycles seem to be cheaper in FL then in NJ.
It is one of those 12' with the V in front so you get a little extra room in front. Just enough for the kitchen sink and a little microwave, with fridge and sink holding tank under. I have a peephole in the door and one in the ramp. One of these days I need to put some portholes in the sides. I also like the security it offers for those states where I am not allowed to carry a handgun. You can drop the back ramp and I have a Harbor Freight mesh tarp to keep the bugs outside. Sunshade is attached to one side and screen room for th bike on the other. The really nice thing is my wife hates it. I do not have to worry about her tagging along. She mutters something like "redneck hillbilly country hick gypsies on parade. You will never catch me in that thing." The trailer is 6'3" single axel. Cost $3000.00 dollars out the door from Diamond. Our Jeep Liberty tows it very nicely, but the Cadillac SRX is tooooo weak. The tranny does not seem up to the task even in Sport Mode. |

Two comments about trailers and sleeping at the track
Do not paint anything about motorcycles on the trailer. It is like a theft magnet. My suggestion is magnet boards that say earls septic tank cleaning. Another option is to pack the van then drive to the race . While t the city of the race rent a u haul trailer . Put the bikes and stinky fuel in the u haul. Then sleep in the van.

I have several different motorcycle logos on the back. Security precautions include pad locks on doors. Ramp locked from inside, also. Lock on hitch. Wheels chained to the frame with case harden chain. I know a cutoff wheel can make short of chains and locks, but they are going to make a lot of noise. I have a carry permit good n 38 states. Most oF those states allow the defense of personal property.

It’s sad we have to go to that much trouble to protect our stuff. But that is the reality. Despite all the locks and chains . While your back is turned . A rollback tow truck can snatch a trailer in under sixty seconds. And they will do it in front of people. Like they are just picking it up.

Here has been my problem with the cheap ones; 1. Between the wind and rain, the top develops a "pocket" where water can pool. 2. More wind and rain just makes the pool bigger 3. Eventually the weight of the water + force of the wind, folds the canopy side rails and it all comes down. The higher quality popups work much better because, the tops are well fitting and the support tubing is better at preventing pooling. Between the anchor points at the legs, and better overall structure, they fight the wind much better than the average popup. TLDR; When you are under a popup, look up! if you see an entire support skeleton throughout (not just on the sides) and a well fitting canvas on that skeleton, it's simply better. my
