Well **** Tri, that looks beautiful! I knew you'd do a great job but damn! If it were me, I'd have the stripe taken off the tank, and I'd paint the fender flat black to match that fairing.

Does that year of R6 typically have the inverted forks?

You get to ride it yet?

...and you know me, I'm still rooting for a bi-xenon retrofit in the low beams. I like reading through your DIY HID install threads. You gave me the guts to do mine (which just needs the damn bike to get installed on...)

I have a spare fender I'll paint black and see how it looks with the bike. Thanks for the suggestion .

The 2005 is the only R6S model to have the inverted forks. They continued the R6S model as a low cost solution past 2005, but kept them like the 03-04. It's kinda funny, but the 05 is a Frankenstein and it seems to have gotten the best race parts with the same fairings. The brembo MC is much better than the other years and it came with the inverted forks.

I doubt I'll do a retrofit. Working on putting the fairings on is nothing like the 250. It would take me 5x as long to pull the parts off to get to the headlights. That's not the reason I wouldn't do it though. I need to recoup all the money I've sunk into it. Maybe when I've nothing else to do, I might.

I rode it tonight to pick up dinner. It's quite a bit faster than the 250. LOL. I did notice it puts out a ridiculous amount of heat on the back of my legs though. It'll be a good winter commuter for sure. haha.

The 2005 wasn't an R6S, it was a full-fledged R6. Great brakes, inverted forks, engine with more torque than 2006 and later. Really was a great bike.

They kept much of it around in later years, rebranded as the R6S, but the S version had the traditional forks, weaker brakes, and slightly detuned motor from the 05 version.

Note to self: '05 bikes rock.

The 2005 636 is classic, the 2005 R6 seems to be the freaking holy grail from Yamaha, and the 2005 CBR600RR has the cool undertail exhaust without looking stupid by moving the tail light on to the fender

Curse you Alex, now you have me thinking bad thoughts with all your talk about the '05 model: http://cleveland.craigslist.org/mcy/3376240550.html

I really enjoyed mine for awhile. I even put a big old Corbin seat on it!

Wow, Tri. That's not just an amazing rebuild -- that's the best looking R6 I've seen. Major 'gratz!

Thanks everyone . In a lot of ways, your enthusiasm for my project helped keep me motivated. I rode the bike into work this morning and it was pretty nice! I'll need to adjust my riding position since I started to get a lower back cramp, but not a big deal.

The pull is definitely amazing and I had no problems in traffic. The one thing I really liked is how well the bike handles the road imperfections. On the ninja, I can pretty much feel every crack and bump. The r6 is a much smoother ride. Then again, I do need to rebuild my forks
