First time riding on the twisties

I need to get out and ride more! I had all of last week off, so I hit Palos Verdes (in California) on my Ninjette. It was a really nice and clear day. Traffic was mellow, so I was not overwhelmed. Hopefully the weather will stay this way, so I can keep taking my bike out.

Hell yeah! Nothing like some twisty riding to wash all the city riding off!

Yeah, I've held off on going because I was afraid I'd be too slow and hold everyone up. That wasn't really an issue because there weren't many bikes out there that day.

I'm in Hermosa Beach and I still haven't hit PV so I'd take it nice and slow with you. Try to get a hold of me next time you go for a ride, 2 is always better than 1!

^This same thing goes through my head every time I wanna hit the nearest twisty-ish roads. I'll just pull over if I feel like I'm holding people back.

Do yourself a favor and do not worry about that. The more you focus on whether or not you're holding someone up, the less attention you have directed to the front. Hit me up if you're going to be in the 818 area. We have a fine selection of roads within 30 minutes in any direction, from beginner to technical.

Word!

Out of all the skills post about, passing is the least talked about, yet you can't go faster if you don't pass a few people along the way. If you can't pass a slower rider, how are you going to pass a fast one?

^^^ That's true, I didn't think about that. Should I make some kind of hand signal letting them know they should pass me, or will most riders just get around?

Most will go around but if you feel like they're too close up on you but not passing you can wave them forward just try to do it when you're coming in to a straight.

It will turn into a habbit. Then one day you might end up doing track days, and track days will soon start feeling like crack days because they will get very addictive, and lead to street riding to become far less fun.

True that, I hate riding the canyons hard now, they scare me! But track though, its balls to the wall!

Some of the guardrails can make for pretty nasty injuries. Sucks that our roadways are designed not thinking of the two wheeled users in mind.

For me, it's made street riding more fun. I don't feel the need to push the envelope, and there is a lot of comfort in knowing how much faster I could go if I chose to do so. It also allows you to enjoy the scenery a little more, but also gives you the extra edge if you need to take evasive maneuvers should the need arise. Like when an oncoming cage or bike comes over the line on you.

Congrats! Once you go twisties, you'll never choose straights if you can help it!
most will go around, but if it makes you nervous, move over to the right a bit when you can and wave them past you. Have fun, ride safe!
