First time on track with a 250 Ninja

I went to Jennings GP today and tried out the little ninja. It was a lot of fun out there. I was not my first track day, just the first one with a ninja 250. I didnt know what to expect, so I started slow and just upped the pace through out the day.

Nice pics. Looking good! JGP is a great track for the 250.

I think I will need to get some clipons to help keep me lower... and probably stiffer springs. I plan on going back to jennings next month. The amount of progress I made through out the day was encouraging. Those pictures were just before lunch.

Last Saturday was great since only 25 riders were there, just hot...91 and very humid.

Awesome! I have a friend who puts together a private 3 day track event at Jennings for a bunch of us in February. Most of us live in the frozen north, so a few days in Florida in February is a welcome treat!

I got a bunch of laps in on a friend's 250 (see avatar) and liked it so much, I bought one a couple weeks after I got home

Jennings is a ton of fun, and the back set of turns (5-12) really let the 250 shine. Not so much on the straights though

Yep, especially the back straight out of T1 until just before T3 is a little long. The front straight is not too bad if you get a good drive out of T13.
For me, once you enter T3, that's where the fun begins. JGP is great for the Ninjette.

Joel,
Not sure yet, but my wife has cleared me hot to do another track day in October. My normal track day buddy will join me, so I am waiting to hear from him too. We will pick a day closer, but I am probably leaning towards Saturday October 22.

Last minute check on Friday and I threw the bike on the trailer and went to Jennings yesterday for my second time on the ninjette. It was fun, great weather (70's and sunny) and it appears Joel is well known and a legend at Jennings for his fast 250. I was running 1:38 lap times just after lunch and I think I picked up a little more speed through turn one after that. My lap timer (aka my wife) got tired of timing me and played on her ipad for the last 3 sessions.

The little ninja gets alot of comments at the track, at first alot of guys arent sure what it is because of my awesome white rattle can finish (hard to type sarcasm). A lot of guys started asking me questions about what I did to it and they start thinking how they can get one and make it a track toy too.

Replace your "timer" () with a camera. Place it on the edge of the track and just figure out your times later. If you have a camera of course.

Showin up with a ninja and having folks see the smile on your face after you pit out is the best advertising in the world for these bikes

Anyone know where there's a place like this in the NYC area?

A track? Closest to you is probably new jersey motorsports park. Southern jersey, so it's a few hours. Louden in Connecticut, but that's further.

Ah, perhaps a misunderstanding. Unless its a school or track organization that provides bikes, you gotta bring your own.

What mods do you have on the bike? The must haves are:
Front springs and 15w oil
Stainless front brake line
Woodcraft Clipons
Dynojet jet kit and full exhaust (Leo Vince with sound plug in)

Next up would be:
Rear sets
Rear shock
Air filter
Smog block off plate

No clip ons yet or springs. They are on the short list. I just let my pegs fold up a little as they grind and started to really lean off and forward more. Brakes...dont use them.
I have a full Jardine exhaust, KN, and dynojet kit.

Smog block off? must be a cali thing

Sounds like you had a great time, Jim. Wish I could have gone...
Suspension will make a big difference. I would suggest getting some rear sets before the clip-ons. This will take away the distraction of the pegs scraping.

I'll see if I can make it next time.
