First Oil Change

So when do you guys do it? The Dealer as well as the manual says 1000km/600miles but I know a lot of people change both the oil as well as the oil filter out sooner. Do you guys recommend this? Is it really necessary and if so when?

I am very aware of what the 600mile service includes. My question is not whether the oil and oil filter is the only things to be changed in the first service. My question is should the oil filter and oil be changed before the 600 mile service as well.

Your gunna get varying answers to your question. I would answer your question as such; it depends on how you break it in, how conservative you are, how mechanically inclined you are and how well do you maintain your bike.

I changed mine for the first time @ 600 miles w/ an average type of break in. Didn't see much in the oil. Did it again @ 1000 after riding it pretty hard. Found more in the oil than the first change.

Your experience me be different.

Some people change oil out allot in the first 600 miles. I always did the 600 - 1000 then every 2000 on my bikes....
Until, the 250r. Kawi put some sort of bad oil in ours, gummy crap. Had to change it out at 200 miles, there was no way in hell you would have made 600.

OK. I was just making sure as it wasn't clear to me from your post.

The people that write the manual know what they are talking about for the most part, so you generally will not go wrong following it

Just enjoy it and don't worry too much before 600 miles.
