Tips for selling ninja 250 on craiglist?

hi guys...I'm planning to sell my 2007 ninja 250 soon and add some money for a newgen (I dont like the pregen styling). i will put it on craiglist but before that I wanna hear some advices selling on CL, I know a lot of you have experiences. do and dont?
Also, my 2007 has 15k miles with minor scratches here and there, brake lever's tip broken, and assuming everything is in working order, how much can I sell it for? thanks!

List it as a zx-6 and hope you get one of those dummies that always ask us "is that a 600" to buy it

all depends on where you live. they go here in socal for anywhere from 1500-2500 (this is the asking price).

for example, i bought my 07 for 1700 but the asking price was $2200.

i bought and sold a lot on CL. My rule of thumb for selling on craigslist is this: Take the price you want to sell it for (your reserve), and add $500 and use that as your asking price.

whatever your asking price is, you will get calls offering way lower. this gives you room to negotiate. Or if you patient enough, somone will eventually buy it for your CL asking price.

I'd fix that lever, because it's the first thing a buyer will see, and it will immediately affect his view of the bike's overall value, and any other real obvious things that can be fixed for a few bucks. Then, get the bike as clean as you can, so it looks like it's been well-maintained, make sure it's running reasonably well, and make sure your title is in order.

Then check the current listings to see the asking price on similar bikes, so you don't price yourself out of contention. If there's one guy undercutting the rest, wait and see how he does before you list.

You'll have better luck on CL if your ad has a few good photos. If the bike looks good on buyers' screens, you'll have more interest, and they'll pay less attention when they actually see it.

Good luck.

Well that bike sold for $2999 in 2007 so I'd say, factoring in depreciation and mileage, list it at $2700

If I was selling it the ad would look like this:

2007 ninja 250 - Great Starter Bike!

-Everything in running condition.

-Always stored in a garage.

-Small scatches on fairing, just wear.

-$2400 but negotiable. No low ball offers, already got a pair.

Here in Florida used New Gens go for about $2700, but I don't know how much bikes go for in NJ.

Agreed. I think OEM pregen levers are like, $8.00. No big deal to buy and will keep people from trying to knock $50 off the price just because of a broken lever.

What cmon, look at this ad, I'm sure you can get more than that

I love how they say "slight cosmetic damage on the left side, but don't show the left side in the photo. Sounds promising.

^lol. That's why I added the "I don't know how much bikes run for in NJ" part, the difference in price between states can pretty steep. Take a look at this ad: http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/mcd/3911242977.html

yes. let them test ride. Make them leave something as collateral. car keys etc.

I would never buy a bike without a test ride. That's one big point that will make me walk away from a sale without hesitation

I wouldn't allow a test ride without cash in hand. At least a grand.

Yeah definitely let em test ride if you want to sell it. Talk to em a bit and get a feel for their experience...

There was an on Cl from one of those buy here pay here places. Had a 08 or so 250 listed for 4599. With 10k plus miles. Must pay cash only.
Ad is gone now, but that sounds like a wonderful deal pay more for a used one with 10k miles than you can buy new for.

Test rides are ok, just make sure you have cash in hand before giving them the go ahead. Too risky if you don't get anything out of it and they wreck it.

Give all the information and a phone number

a lot of people are smart and dont want to deal with the bull, make a list not a paragraph about how your wife is beating you at night so you need to sell your bike to move out yada yada blah blah blah
-Year
-Mileage
-Mechanical condition
-cosmetic condition
-maintenance done
-time/mileage of those maintenance
-lots of pictures so i don't waste my time driving to your house to see it
-name + phone number

ALL CASH IN HAND for test ride. IN YOUR HAND NOT THEIRS

Thats $1000 more than I paid for my new gen!

When I went to go look at my bike, I didn't expect to test drive it because I didn't have the money with me. I told the seller I'd buy it and was going to go get the money and a trailer. As I was leaving she asked if I at least wanted to test drive it first. She even offered to show me how to ride if I didn't know Nice lady. I wouldn't let anyone do it without cash though. Speaking of which, I handed them cash in an envelope, and they didn't even count it! Her BF took the money and asked me if it was all there. I said yeah and he said ok I trust you
