New member saying hello
Hi people,
I am a new rider from Sydney (Parra) area. Just got myself a used 08 Ninja 250 to brush up on my skills as I haven't ridden for a few years. I must admit that it's so much fun to be back on 2 wheels again after so long. It's mostly for commuting to work in CBD. I have been wanting to get back on a bike for a while. I had 250cc bikes previously as learner up until after I got my open R license. Now I thought that I'd buy a 250 again for a while so I get used to be back on it again and then may be upgrade to a bigger one for first time ever. But, now I am feeling that 250 is a bit too small for me, and wanting to get slightly more powerful bike (not a 1000cc, but close to 600 may be) doesn't have to be ZX6R, but I guess you get my point. So my question is what would you recommend please, either a racier style or even naked more upright one will be my taste. And finally, can I sell my 250 on this platform or advertise it? If yes, how and which exact category of posts. Looking forward to your answers! Thanks! |

Greetings & Salutations!
After getting Ninja 250, I'm riding my CBR600RR less and less on road & track. Lighter 250 has much better handling in mountains. Easier to manuever on commutes and splitting lanes. It goes 160kph, which is more than fast enough to lose my licence and get tossed in jail! |

I don't think I'd want to go for a CBR600RR /R6/GSX600R or one of those kind. They are definitely out of my skill set. Something around 500cc or even the ones which are 600-650cc but not the R kind, so a bit forgiving and tame. But thank you for your insight, that is definitely worth considering. |

I have one of these for casual days when I'm more relaxed and don't feel like wringing neck out of RR. More comfortable to cruise for lunch in hills with my wife if she doesn't feel like riding her bike.

Welcome!
If you want to go 600 without breaking the bank and going extremely fast, your can go for a sporty twin 600. Suzuki SV650, Ninja 650, or the new Yamaha R7. You also have the new Aprilia RS660, but it's as expensive as a super sport 600. And its reliability is still dubious. Beautiful bike though. Light, sporty, loaded with electronics, stylish. |

Yes, very similar, with the same frame and engine, the R7 having some performance features like a slipper clutch, and the MT-07 having a much more touring style riding position.

I guess I'm late to the party, but mid-size bikes are my jam. I've been on a gen 2 SV650S for years now and it is a fantastic machine. I sold my CBR600 after I got the 650 because it ticks off so many boxes. I'm pretty sure if you can put some miles (and a few trackdays in) on a Ninja 250 then move up to a 650/700 class twin, there will not be a single liter-bike bro who could keep up with you. Ninja 250s and SV650s train up really efficient, well-rounded riders.

My main reason for changing to a bigger bike was the comfort, a heavy bike even a sport bike offers a better ride than a light weight.
Not having to change gear all the time is the other my K1300S will run at 30 mph in 6th and then take you to 170 mph in fact any big I4 will give you flexibility. The bigger the better must be an I4 type of bike is your choice Steve

HI All, thanks for the welcome. I guess I'd work on my 250 and my sharpening my skills and put upgrade though aside for now

I'm seriously looking at ST1300 for longer rides that take more than 10-hrs/day. Although that takes me from S.F. to Phoenix and I haven't needed to go further than that.
Or putting top-box and saddlebags on Ninja 250 for camping gear. My brother & cousin do live in Portland.... hmmm... |

I also found it to be a massively different riding experience than anything else. Sport-touring, in general, is great if you commute or put down massive miles, but my reasons for riding changed a lot over the years. The BMW was point and shoot: it handled all the riding for me and I felt very disconnected from the riding experience. My riding buddy had a BMW 1250 and felt the same way. Now we race each other with my 250 and his 300 and have way more fun. Big powerful bikes are for the birds, I'd rather have a good time.
