The itch to riding is killing me.

Day 4: Ice and snow everywhere. Oil in bike is too low. I'm not sure if I can make it. Must...rev...ninjette...

hahah. So yes, my bike is currently locked up and on stands until I get her oil and until the weather in MD clears up . I have to wait til thursday to ride again. Totaling 8 days without riding . Seems like nothing to most people I bet

What's the longest you had to wait to ride your bike when you had that desperate itch? (Winterizing doesn't count in the event you do so simply because it's cold, and not icey/snowy/dangerous, that's deliberately preventing yourself from riding :P lol)

Winterizing totally counts! I call foul!

I put mine away every August because I go to college that's 2:30 away from home. Not really by choice, but more like 1) no way to get bike there with car+stuff and 2) no where to ride at school anyway. (freakin farmville, sheesh)

So using that logic, longest I've been off my bike is like 8-9 months straight. My riding season is 13 weeks long. May-August.

Why doesn't winterizing count, last I checked riding on ice is just asking to wreck your bike? I can't even drive my car without fishtailing.

Haha alright alright, fair enough those are some pretty legit reasons. I guess I mean winterizing for people who just dont want to layer up and endure the cold. haha If my little 130lb body with no fat to keep warm can do it, so can everyone else haha

I fixed the OP to clarify winterizing in the event of it just being uncomfortable, not dangerous. None of us want to ride in ice on our Ninjas . I hope lol

That's nothing man!

I bought my Ninja in November when it was just getting cold out and I'm talking about 30-40 degrees.
It's about 20 degrees out right now and was like 1 or 2 degrees yesterday and the day before. I haven't took my classes yet, and have been completely pissed that I bought it at the beginning of the winter when it seemed like a good idea. Now I dread every day that I can't ride it.

Don't ever come to Boston.

On the plus side of things, bikes tend to be cheaper in the winter time. At least mine was. The owner was in a hurry to sell because he wanted to upgraded to an SS. He actually bought it the spring of the same year (not sure what he paid for it though). I'm glad I got my bike for what I did at around $2550. Had over $1400 of mods already on it that I eventually came to appreciate. But just wait until it warms a little, layer up, and you can take your classes/ride frequently.

Yeah that's why I bought it when I did but I am hating the fact that I can't ride lol.

I still have the dealer ad from Craigslist. I dropped it down to $2600 though because it had some bruises on the right side.

I've been waiting to get her running since July. @EMSRacer07 sold me his engine over the holidays and Andy from AP Motorarts is gonna swap it in sometime this week for me.

I'm thinking of offering him my firstborn to make it sooner rather than later.

I was able to ride through it yesterday so I was only off my bike the day it snowed (thursday) and the day after (friday). Just pour your engine a nice drink and enjoy the ride. Just watch the salt it's murder to chains I swear I've started cleaning mine after every ride and I'm running out of chain lube fast :'(

as for the cold; thermal underwear, heated gloves under normal gloves, heated vest, two shirts, a sweater, winter kevlar moto jacket, cheap scarves (lost two so far between this winter and last), thick socks, knee/shin guards, and moto boots. good to go, occasionally I find myself sweating at stop lights like it's summer or something when I go that far overkill.

I ride all year, but Dec through Feb don't give me as many days to ride as I'd like. I've probably gone, at most, 4 weeks at a time without riding. Then I always get afraid the battery is dead, but so far, so good! Do you guys keep your battery on a tender regularly?

I usually only bring my battery in for tending when it has been snowing/really cold for a few days.. which it has haha. Thanks for reminding me

I have never had my bike on a battery tender and have yet to have a problem. It was -7 yesterday morning and I took it for a short ride after it warmed up to 20. Started a little more reluctantly but not difficult. The dealer installed a tender connection so if I need to, easy peasy hook up.

Just remove the battery, no tender. If there is no load only the shelf life will make it decline.

Ooh, good suggestion. I've heard good things about it. As long as it's on netflix, I'll go with that one next. How many seasons have there been?

I am super lucky to have a backyard like I do (50 acres of woods and trails). When I can't ride street or track, I just ride my backyard. Between the dirt bike and 4wheelers, I get to scratch my itch.

I took 5yrs off from riding once to pursue other interests, it was not so bad.
