Hi from SW Ontario :)
Hi there!
I just stumbled on this forum googling for 250 info... right now I am riding a cbr125 and finding that it just isnt enough... I rode a friend's ninja250 and I LOVE IT. I'm hoping to pick one up soon. I wish I had done this in the winter, but oh well... i really wanted to ride one first, and this bike seems like it has everything that I want, so hopefully I'll be keeping it longer then i lasted with the 125! (1 season) How do you guys find it if you are doing your own maintenence? I've been doing my own oil changes on the 125, but it comes apart really easy and there isnt even an oil filter lol Anywho, nice to be here |

Welcome mate.
Fairings are quite expensive. As for frame sliders, there are different types of brands, and different types of mounts. Many people have different opinions on frame sliders, I, myself believe that they are good for the very slow/stationary drops and won't help much in a high speed situation. Have a read of this for your full comprehensive look at frame sliders, Ninjettewiki Frame Slider info.

thanks so much! I like that this place is so welcoming... i post sometimes on a local forum, and omg, the simplest question sometimes gets people flamed! haha
I'm sure I'll have lots of questions! I'm 99.9% sure I'm going to buy a new black '10 this week! I've been calling around for prices, and they are all pretty much the same, but there is a place that said they swallow the pdi for me (it's where i got my first bike, they've always been really awesome) AND they just happen to have a black '10 in a crate! |

+1 for team black
You can always try to do searches first as many questions have been asked in the past. It's ashamed that dealership don't do much negotiating on the 250 cause their so popular. In 2008, they sold out across canada before summer was here and dealerships in the states wouldn't sell one brand new to us plus it voided the warranty to cross the border with it. I had to wait a whole year for my baby.

do you guys find it's all you need? When i bought my cbr I bought it new cause i figured if I liked it, I'd want to be the only owner... being on the hwy on the cbr is terrible, but i find it so much fun on the 250 i think the extra power and stability is really all i'd need so this bike should be fine, unless i happen to save up tons of cash for a 600... but then again, i dont really NEED to be going 300kmh!

Our ninjettes can go up to 160km/h, so the odometer says (really 145-150). I can ride on the freeway no problem.
But the higher the rpms, the louder it whines and some ppl don't like that. I'm sure you've experience this with the 125 trying to go highway speeds. Some ppl have changed their sprockets but most of us just leave be. Plus its more fun to ride in the backroads anyway where the speeds are much less.

Hi Joyce! I'm glad you found us! I've found that for me, the 250 is more than enough. I've never seen the top end, nor do I plan to. She also accelerates almost as well as my WRX, which makes me happy. I live in the mountains, and don't have any issues with traffic, even at 70 mph on our steep inclines with truck lanes on them.
I just had hubby do a private mini- MSF course yesterday and we had a blast - he's a car guy, but he doesn't see getting anything bigger if he gets a bike, and I think that's saying something knowing where he's coming from with cars!

Welcome aboard Joyce!
The maintenance is fairly easy to do and there's a TON of useful guides and info posted up by members for doing some of the standard stuff. The only limit is your comfort level and toolbox. I take my 250 on the highway (new 15-tooth front sprocket) and, like Kim, find there's plenty of power, even on steep hills etc. If I get another bike, I'll be keeping this one, it's so much fun!

Welcome Joyce - glad to have you with us. The 250 is an easy bike to start to learn your own maintenance on. With a little common sense and the DIY's on the site you shouldn't have any problems. Oil changes are a good way to start.

The part i love the best about having a black bike is that you can buy any color of gear.

Yay, team black
We seem to have a lot of girls on black bikes here. Welcome!! Oil changes are easy -- I did one myself in the fall and I'd never touched a bottle of motor oil in my life prior to that! |

good to know! it sounds like you just drain the oil and change the filter and fill it back up... thats not so bad. i've changed the oil on my cbr, and there's no filter lol
