Will not work. Will it based on time? Or steering angle?

A lane change at 60mph will have a different steering angle compared to a right turn in Manhattan.

I need!

I have no inkling how to turn them off, and I am sure it is going to kill me someday.

SM-2 unit is designed as a plug-in replacement for many Japanese and some early European bikes. Extra ground wire of the unit must be attached to a good chassis location.

signalMinder uses a computer chip to cancel the turn signals. There are three selectable timeouts; 10, 20, 30 seconds.

RUNNING LIGHT OPTION:
By attaching two quick-connect wires included, you can convert ALL FOUR turn signals to running lights and establish a dual-channel system on your bike.

Using the DIP Switch #1, you can keep them off and still have the dual-channel system.

With the dual-channel system, when you activate the RIGHT turn signal three times in succession, you get 4-way hazard flash function.

NEW FEATURE (d17EBxx code)

Built-in RUN-TURN-BRAKE functions
No need to buy other turn signal conversion product. You get all the features of RUN-TURN-BRAKE and automatic signal canelling!

If you hook-up the 12 volt supply from the brakes to the signalMinder brake input:

BRAKE FLASH OPTION will flash the turn signal lamps every time you apply brakes. A short 2 second flash pattern begins with quick flashes then slows down to stay on solid.

BRAKE OVERRIDE OPTION suspends the time-out feature until the brakes are released. This allows continued flashing for those times when you are waiting at the signals to make a turn and do not want the time-out to cancel the flashing.

MORE FEATURES

HANDLE BAR RETURN SPRINGS:
If above options are hooked-up, these tiny return springs can be inserted in the handlebar switch to force it back to neutral automatically. You don't have use the Push-to-cancel of the handlebar switch.

Above options are not required to be installed, but utilizing them allows fully automatic turn signal cancellation. We highly recommend hooking them up.

Please Note! NONE of the wires on the bike have to be cut. The kit includes Scotchlok brand of Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDC) to tap into existing wires.

The last thing you need is to worry about canceling the turn signals! Use all of the built-in options of thesignalMinder and enjoy the ride.

signalMinder has an add-on product known as vectraLIGHT. These LED arrays simply plug into the signalMinderand inherit all of it's features. They are designed to mount under the turn signal mirrors.

Cars it turns off but does not work just by changing lanes but I am not as concerned about forgetting to turn them off on superslabs.

On surface streets and cross traffic....

My Ninjette had a Kisan flasher unit (was installed by the PO). The timeout feature was controlled by number of flashes. If you had a brake applied, it would keep flashing until you released the brake(s) (good for when you were at a stoplight). One could also invoke emergency flasher mode or "wigwag" flash mode.

I left the Kisan unit on the bike but wasn't extremely happy with it: it would occasionally go into a weird mode that required a power-off cycle to reset it.

I'm old so I file it under "acting my age."

My last track day I reflexively signalled at pit in. No kidding.

Of you are truly old, then it would have been on the whole time, left turn preferred

Maybe someone is smart enough to make a circuit that can click off after a timed delay. Is there already such a thing that is applicable here?

All you would need here is a simple 555 timer. The thing here is then you would have to route another power wire since you would no longer be going of the basic turn signal power. Tune the 555 timer to allow for a specific length you feel comfortable, resistor values are the key (might want to use pots), and there you go. Might also need a dc-to-dc converter.

My 1982 Virago has self canceling signals, not sure how it does it, but came from the factory that way.

My '85 VN700 had them stock too. Honestly, I spent more time turning them back on because they shut off early, or waiting to make sure they'd turn off after I completed the turn, than I spend thinking about clicking them off on the EX500.

In theory I like them. In reality, I think they're an overly complicated solution to a very minor problem. Just install a diode kit and get a really bright LED bulb to use for the dash indicator, so you CAN'T ignore it.

Push in on the switch when it's in the center position to cancel. Push left or right to activate.

You can wire in a "beeper" to remind you they're on.

Old school hand signals! On the highway I usually use hand signals local roads both and I try to train myself to keep hitting the cancel button 4 to 5 times after a turn.
