Dude, I had to lay it down

No dude, you didn't.

It's a common phrase in the motorcycling world "I had to lay it down or else blah blah blah would have happened" but what it really means is "I do not posses the confidence nor ability to properly ride a motorcycle" When people panic and don't know what to do, they lay it down. If you think the plastic of your bike and your skin scraping across the ground is going to slow you down faster than rubber on asphalt then maybe you should start driving one of those Flinstones cars. If you think giving up all control over the situation is the best answer then, then, then I don't even know what to say because of how stupid that statement is.

Feel free to post your story and we can discuss how that was the worst decision you could have made.

Uhm, no you didn't have to lay her down and you also didn't choose to do that. You locked the front and crashed on your own. If you had braked properly you would not have hit the car evidenced by the bike stopping in time from plastic skidding on the pavement

Michael, how long have you been riding on the street? You were going too fast for traffic and even seeing the cars in front braking you still continue to carry your speed. It doesn't help that you were in a low gear so engine breaking is nonefficient.

Could have saved it by going left but looked like in the video you had no choice but to dump it. Practice setting your speed/gear and looking for exit strategy. Always look at traffic at least 5 cars ahead of your direction of travel.

Should've been looking for an exit route towards the left of the SUV as soon as you saw their signal go on. It also helps to keep track of the cars ahead of the one closest to you so you can survey the traffic situation and prepare to squeeze the brakes.

It won't lock, it will loop. It only locks when you grab it too fast. A firm even squeeze until you hit maximum braking.

On a loose surface, not very hard but most likely harder than you might think.
On a clean, dry, warm surface with warm tires, you can pull it progressively until the rear wheel comes off the ground.
On a clean, dry, cool surface with warm tires, you can pull it progressively until skid or rear wheel comes off the ground.

The trick is to be very quick with your corrective reaction, which should be to ease up on the brake and reapply. These skills are best learned on a dirt bike at slower speeds and of course.... in the dirt, not on pavement.

Bars werent straight, bull****!

I counted 7-8 seconds of knowing the traffic was packing up with lots of warning that the driver wanted to grab the right hand lane. (thats a long shoulder check)
- Me I would've been as left as could (riding the yellow line) and took him on the left
- You could've also stopped the bike, watch your motion on your handle bars, you turn them hard to the right when you brake, why? Your bars were prefect for a stop before you caused your own crash. Only reason I would've taken him on the left is I would've been scared s***less of a cager ramming up my ass if I stopped. Yes I've been in many circumstances exactly like that, you probably will too if you ride for long.

Get better, quickly (yes I'm an ahole today)

I've learned a lot about braking on dirt. I've learned to brake with the terrain. Different terrain, different techniques. You could have stopped that bike. Plenty of room.
